Re: What are some good cheap mics?
Thanks for the feedback. I guess I will swing on by radioshack and see what they have. I have a Shure sm58 and a Ross dynamic. I just wanted to find some extra mics for a little variety. I just wanted to make a small investment because I know how bad cheap mics can be. I've had a radioshack mic and ...

What are some good cheap mics?
I mean really CHEAP but decent. Like $30(that's pushin' it) and way down to $.99. Its just for 4-track. I would like to buy a few mics so I could experiment with them.

Re: Professional Mastering of Homerecordings
Thanks for the advice. Appreciate the input. I have really liked some of the things I have recorded but sometimes its perfect except for one thing. Like' there is too much bass or it's too quiet. I guess I should keep mixing till it ends up almost perfect(which is relative with home recording). I gu...

Professional Mastering of Homerecordings
How realistic is it to get a good sound by recording at home with a digital recorder and cassette 4 track. I intend to record with this limited equipment but have someone that knows a little bit more about recording to fix the mixes. Is there anything I should know about doing it this way?

Re: The Velvet Underground Sounds
flood the tape, of course.. but also watch the treble.. I remember an interview with Lou expressing his dislike for cymbals.. or high end in general.. Also, it was a jazz label that was recording zappa at the same time... focus on the midrange..and hack everything from 5k on up. Yeah this is intere...

Re: The Velvet Underground Sounds
overdrive the f@!% out of all your equipment starting with the amp Well, thats a bit of a stereotype of their sound. VU have great clean sounds on many of their songs. What I was wondering is how they got that sort of dulled sound on their self-titled album(grey photo not banana)? I really love tha...

Re: Mono Equalization Method
There's an NYC guy over at Gearslutz who does his panning with the mono button in. It does work, I do it sometimes. You can hear the way things relate differently as you pan them around, even though you are monitoring in mono. Try it. So does he and yourself get any weird panning configurations? Li...

Re: Mono Equalization Method
Hey Joel Some of this is new to me. I am novice to recording so I dont know all the terms. So, I am not sure what you mean by "PHASE COHERENT" and the methods of "properly tracking sounds". Is it about mic placement? Is it about each track's volume? Or is it about something being in or out of phase?...

Re: Mono Equalization Method
Thanks for the feedback. Does anyone know how they did it before stereo? Historically, what did Phil Spector(or any body else for that matter) have at his disposal as far as types of equipment? I think he was dealing with mono for a long time. I am just trying to get a feel for this method conceptua...

Mono Equalization Method
I was wondering if anyone had ever heard of a method of finding the right equalization for various tracks by not panning anything(pretty much mono) and then sort of messing with different frequencies to find what sounds best? Then when you get to the point where it sounds as good as it can you pan a...
