Sorry, I fell in a well and completely forgot about this thread.

Any West-siders hang out at Cinema Bar? It's near impossible to get people out of a 10 mile radius of their house.. LA meetups are always so hard to organize.

I'm in Culver City but I am willing to drive. Silverlake is reasonable for me. It would be great to meet everyone.

Damn nice to see the boards back up.

Los Angeles TapeOps (LA beer night)

Hey all, I'm a musician and project studio recordist in LA and I have found it to be no simple thing tracking down like minded small studio owners or other DIY project musicians across this urban expanse. Plenty of people recording things but... A project I am working on has exceeded my capabilities...

Re: Schumann Pedals

forgive me for reviving this long dead thread to point out that schumann electronics now has a web presence where you can glimpse the PPL and a few of the mentioned prototype pedals at fruition. http://www.maindragmusic.com/js/index.html Any of you who have picked one of these up in the meantime hav...

Re: what about songwriting?

I have been seeing this come up recently off topic in several forums with people trying to find an appropriate place to talk about the subject of songwriting. I thought about suggesting a place in the TapeOp forum but wasn't sure if it was within the scope unless specificly for producers or engineer...

Re: buyer's remorse.. any suggestions?

I don't think the 266 is so bad. I like it on the 'ol bass and the sucky vocals that our mine. Put it this way, it's not the first piece I'd upgrade in my modest home set-up. dunno...i'd hold on to it for a while too...it ain't the bee's knees but it does work...thinking back i think it sounded bet...

Re: buyer's remorse.. any suggestions?

and as far as manufacturers and models that get picked on the most online - you hit the jackpot with your selections... haha.. no kidding. I'm a lot more comfortable discussing the subjective quality of guitars, amps and effects. I understand that a lot of people's opinion of gear (especially onlin...

Re: buyer's remorse.. any suggestions?

AKG C3000B Get to know the mic's limitations (overly bright and lacking in low end) and strengths (can handle high SPL), and adjust your technique accordingly. If it's vocals, setting the mic up in a closet/makeshift vocal booth/deadened space can help minimize nasty reflections that help this mic ...

Re: buyer's remorse.. any suggestions?

it all depends on your room and what your doing with the equipment also!.. I agree. We have spent a good deal of time with this equipment and as I probably should have first stated it doesn't sound terrible or anything. It has just become obvious as I have been reading and listening a bit more that...

Re: buyer's remorse.. any suggestions?

so you've heard this stuff is crap...what have you heard that is so crappy about it? I have unfortunately not been exposed to very high end mics and preamps so it is difficult for me to judge the quality of these. They are currently getting the job done so it is difficult to complain too much. It j...

buyer's remorse.. any suggestions?

For the humble studio my band has been piecing together I have a few items that I feel I purchased in relative ignorance and I was hoping you folks might have suggestions for what similarly priced replacments would give us better bang/buck. I am open to any suggestions. First off.. we are running ev...

Re: diy mics - big fun for all!

off topic sorry but in the future you can got to http://tinyurl.com/ and generate a much smaller url tag for posting to message boards (http://tinyurl.com/evah is the url for that article). Not as nice looking at the url tag but if you have something against them tinyurl might suit you. I was wonder...

Re: recording F#%$ing HARDCORE vox

There are actually a lot of different ways to get a scream or shout sound at low volume. I don't think any of them are good for your voice though. One way is to smoke a whole lot and sing with irritated vocal chords. This is basically just the voice distorting because of the physical changes from th...

Re: recording F#%$ing HARDCORE vox

This is less a suggestion than a possible experiment. In a recent recording session our drummer needed a dummy vocal track to get a feel for where he was dynamicly in the song. I alternate a bit between singing styles but spend some time in mildly eratic shouting and took a single take singing into ...

Re: 001 question

Digidesign suggests that you create and store your sessions on a different drive than the system drive as d franco describes. I usually run protools along with the OS and all other software off the system drive while storing my session data to a different internal drive (on a different IDE channel)....
