It was okay.
Actually it was pretty good.
Really it fucking rocked.
More honestly it was a truly earth shaking.
As far as those of you who have already seen it all I have to say is 'FOREVER'.

Re: what mic's should I buy?
I agree with Bob G this is a loaded question. You need to clarify what you have as far a signal chain, and what you wish to record.
Beyond that you should explore the idea of just giving someone else who you trust half the $1500 to produce a demo.

Also this dumb-fuck intern, who works for free assuming you're going to teach him something, who also works for free assuming he won't be dubbing tapes for eight hours as part of his colledge education, who also works for free cleaning his new classroom, who also works for free making cold calls to ...

Re: anyone use a rode nt1000 mic?
I own a Rode NT-1000 and have found it an excellent vocal mic. I auditioned it against an NT-1 and a Blue Dragonfly, using my girlfreind's voice. Both the NT-1 and the Dragonfly were more harsh in the high end. They had a 'metallic' sound according to another listener that happened to be at the stor...

Re: 'Undiscovered' tube amps
I have an odd theory on early/ discrete solid state guitar amps. I 've heard a bunch of Silvertone/ Ampeg/ Standel / etc... solidstate amps. Since modern discrete SS mic pres and other out board gear are reviewed so highly, is it posible that the old SS amps sound great because they're engineered si...

Re: sticky thread for newbies?
Treat every newb like a gold mine. They may have ears that none of us could conceive and ideas that could bend our old minds. Where I work I delight in someone picking up a four-track, or a decent mic. It's cake to watch these newbs, whether they're ten years younger or 15 years older, discover some...

Re: blue mic song contest
Post your silly lyrics. I'll sing them. I suck. Who cares? You might win some mics. Even if I deliver the world's best performance I'll still give you the prize. Also why not ask some great local singer (I'm in St. Louis) to sing the fucking jingle you wrote? Enter the contest. Dude, you're the man....

Re: at4047
I almost can never muster any negativity toward AT products. In general you get what you pay for and more. My AT-4047 I bought used. I own 2 AT-4033's and one AT-4050 as well. My overall opion on the 4047 is very positive . If I remember correctly it is a FET transformer balanced mic. It is designed...

Re: Favorite bass guitar
I can't believe it took three pages for someone to mention a Stingray. Thanks motormantra. Stingrays should never be let go of. If some nut offers you another $1000 more (than market) for your old Precision sell it. If they offer $1500 more for your Jazz, consider it only if you need the money. As f...

How do major studios handle AC crisis(es)
I'd like to know how major studios handled the major blackout. I assume all the computers in a major facility have uninteruptible power suplies, allowing them to power down safely. Do they have backup generators? Is there a contingency plan? I saw Conan O'brien when the power failed. He was able to ...

Re: Cool Edit Pro advice please
I have been using Cool Edit Pro for 4 plus years. I quite like it, but there are a few quirks. First of all, the session playback can sound different than the mixdown of a session. Try experimenting with a 12 or 16 track mix in session, then mix to two track and listening. I have heard dramatic diff...

Sony mixer
I have a sony mixer. It's an MX-P21 or such. In the Orion Blue Book there is an MXP-210, this listed near $2800 and held a mint value of the mid $700 range. I've seen ebay auctions for the 210 in a silver finish. The thing had all off the same features: talk-back mic, built in oscillator, etc. Are t...

Re: Gettin' Paid...
Has anyone tried a complex system, such as by track minute or definite time tracking? I realize this is computer-based-recording-centric, but it would be a fairly good rough measurement in reguard to the more arcane (as far as the talent is concerned) aspects of mixing and mastering. If a band wants...

I propose a new forum
I put the Rocky Horror Picture Show on my studio system and for the first time definitely heard the noise gates kick open for the strings on the opening theme. Here's the deal, the elders of these forums hear stuff I can't hear. I hear stuff the newist four-track guerillas don't hear. So let a new f...

That's the Mistress?
Damn I've got to buy another EH pedal.
I still stand behind my by them while they're cheap delay line statement. Some of those old delay lines will let you screw with the time after the sample is in the works.
