"Remastering: Dan Hersch and Bill Ingot for DIGIPREP" Just out of curiousity I borrowed an old Aural Exciter and and old BBE maxie from my guitarist. Because the sweet high end on it made me think "exciter" for some reason. I had an hour or so to play around with it yesterday and I think I got prett...

Thanks for the replies so far. The remaster versions I have came out around 2003 I believe. There's a good chance it could just be the original tape's sound I guess, but no other recent remaster of an older record (that I own) sounds like this; and most of my collection is classic rock and r&b remas...

T.Rex Remasters?

Recently I discovered the gold mine that is T.Rex's remastered early albums (It's before my time and was never on the radio near me.) My thing is this. The remasters I have (especially "Electric Warrior", and "T.Rex Wax Co. Singles") both sound like no CD I've ever played. When you play them it soun...

I use the Blue Tubes package. They sound great and are easy to use. They add color, but so would the 'real' gear they're modeled after.

A large majority of the people in this thread have already said what I would say about the levels. But I have a story thats on topic. For the last 2 years I was a full time teaching assistant, and part time head teacher for audio production in a technical school. Students learned to record on Macs w...

I track using AC-1. I go in through a focusrite octopre into AC-1 with a setting that I like a lot as a "board" setting that I strap across every track. For every recorded track I have an aux track as the actual input before it so that any plugs I decide to use get recorded. The AC1 rarely moves on ...

I've been doing my recent recordings in 24bit/48khz. I do feel there is a noticeable difference between all the different rates on my system, even when you end up at 16bit/44.1khz on a CD. The difference is greater the higher up the sample rate obviously, but to me 44.1 sounds good initially, but wh...

I don't know about any books, but I do know that part of the sound was that the drums were covered with sheets, the drummer played on top of the sheets extremely soft, and then the whole kit was uber-compressed.

a scenario where VU meters even apply to what is happening in a DAW type scenario I'm not looking to make anyone eat their words at all here. But I find that if I watch the VU meters on analog channel''s input when Im tracking and keep the needle average between -3 and -5 I get a more consistant, c...

Im pretty sure what he means is that you'll need an SPL meter and sit at your listening position with it and bring the levels up until it reads about 85db at the loudest. Volume controls generally don't tell you what amount of db will come out when you turn it up because it can vary widely like the ...

It's a really chill place. Great atmosphere, couches everywhere, nice stage; and the bar usually treats you pretty good.

Heres two of the new tracks from my band Atomic Fury. These are the first songs I recorded at my new studio. Also the first tracks to feature me playing bass as well as singing. (I used to be just lead vox, but our bassist left in september and I had to learn to do both.) "Soul Shaker" - http://www....
