I always mic the Hihat's. I figure if I don't need it I don't have to use it. You can automate it so that it's there when you need it, and out when it's not.
I recently used the hihat mic to phase out some really loud 13" hats in one of the overheads. It would have been hell without it.

I wouldn't buy the avalon, but I wouldn't buy the LA-610 either.. The avalon might be more versatile, but I wouldn't spend that kind of money for something that doesn't offer that magic sparkle that other gear in that price range does. I had my eyes on the LA610 for some time. I did a lot of researc...

Go to 'product information' and look at the rack mount chasis.
There are other places too, but this is the only one I know of off hand.

I also suffer from compression obsession.. People always say "I only compress when I really need it" but I think that's BS. There are very few things I don't compress regularly. I think a better rule of thumb is to not overcompress unless something really needs it.. Drum room mics, for example. Oh, ...

The Ramones, Suicidal Tendancies, KISS, John Mayar, Jack Johnson.. I could go on forever. I guess I just don't get some things. I could understand not getting Pink Floyd, even though I like them quite a bit. I can understand why a lot of people dislike a lot of music, but I can't for a second unders...

EH Black Finger for Bass (or guitar)..
Anyone ever use one for bass? I know it's not balanced so I'd run it before a DI. How does it compare to a DBX160? I love what my 160's do on bass, but I'm really looking for something to work a little magic on the attack. My 1176's are good for the attack, but I don't like what they do to the botto...

I knew a guy who had an old rogers kit, this was years ago, not sure he even still has it, but if you're really desperate PM me and maybe we can track him down. I know he's in LA somewhere, I don't think he'd be too hard to find to be honest. It was in mint, and it was just taking up space. I don't ...

ROLAND JC-120!!! Holy crap, I can't believe this amp isn't on here a thousand times already.. Unless I'm mistaking, but I could have sworn it was a solid state amp. Plug a distortion pedal into that puppy and it will rip your face off, truely a versatile amp with any fx (I know, that's kind of an ox...

1176 Distortion, is this normal?
Even at 4:1 I'm getting an ugly snowy noise at the top end. I don't get it on vocals, drums overheads, or accoustic guitars unless I drive it really hard. I notice it on high gain guitars and it's really noticable on bass. Here's what I can do to reduce the distortion, but I don't know where the mai...

My room is relatively small too, but I still get some of the best sounds out of my room mic. It's not the loudest part of the drum mix, but the snare just would never be the same without it. It's usually only about 8 or 9 feet in front of the kit in omni, but on solo it's a far better interpretation...
