ENTs are just like musicians - they think sticking a tube in anything makes it better.

I haven't been able to get through the album without feeling like I'm slightly deafer. Much as I LOVE S-K (been to five shows and have a signed shirt, because that's how fly I roll), The Woods is really tough for me to get into. I guess I'll have to see them live next time they hit L.A. They're supe...

So, who wants to buy an AS-NEW, GOOD TO GO human kidney?

Only $1300. Extra for ice and styrofoam to-go cup.

(Seriously, the more samples I hear of that bastard Germanium, the more appealing the concept of dialysis becomes.)

Ukelin. Hands down. How the fuck are you supposed to bow one thing while plucking another? It's like one man's bizarre kinky sexual perversions taken physical (and quote-unquote "musical") form! It's the instrumental equivalent of a threesome with a guy and a girl. So many parts that no one has any ...

I thought Jesus *was* the Jesus of uncool.

With the hair? And the disco robes? And the afro? I mean, c'mon, people still think he's white.

The ubiquitous "lip-smack" sound is a sad last vestige of NPR's cruel, sweatshop-like secret rulebook Mein Kampfenbroadcasten . These rules were mostly abolished during the comparatively well behaved and mostly caffeine-induced "Little L.A. riots" in Westwood, which history mostly ignored because th...

Is it a bright 5-watt Gibson sound? Is it a nice "t00b sound!!#111@" box?

So what's the frequency response of that Lawson like? Airy? Bright? Dark? I'm starting to look around for a good multi-pattern that could do well for my voice, but also do well on guitars/pianos/drums/etc.

That is a risk one runs when any music exists at all.
Or American Idol, for that matter.

Yeah, but it's ridiculously expensive. Elliott would be turning.

Question for Mike Mogis - Conor's vocal chain?

Hey, Mike Mogis' e-mail address from his studio site doesn't work anymore, so I was wondering (since he's interviewed in the latest TapeOp) if anyone knows Conor Oberst's vocal chain from I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning - specifically the song "Old Soul Song (for the New World Order)." Thanks in advance!

So, this is a stupid question, but... what exactly IS M-S decoding? Is it a way of getting sounds to sound like they're "pointing" in a particular direction?

Oh, Elliott. Just reading his name makes me sad... oy.

King's Crossing is a killer song. I've tested a few Elliott covers, but my voice has sounded too - what's the word? - thick? - to get it right. So much of him was the frailty, the uncertainty. What wasn't/couldn't be sung, versus what was.

Damn. I really like the SM7's vocal sound (no wonder it's in the hands of the likes of Jeff Tweedy) - larger than life, but not obnoxious. I've got a Beyer M201 on the way, and that'll be my first dynamic. Hopefully that will be equally as present. Nothing wrong with imitating George Harrison's voca...

I've not recorded a ton of anything in my life, but I have recorded quite a bit of bass through my Gibson GA-20rvt (20 watt class A tube guitar amp from the 60's) using an MXL V67 large-diaphragm condensor, and it sounds just lovely. Some compression helps either way. I have a feeling I won't be doi...
