Topic: [Group Buy Mic] Ouch... Group Buy mic just SHOCKED me!

Same happened to me with an Apex mic. Shoddy construction means that the cable can sometimes short when not inserted properly. I has my hand on the cable and my other on the mic; shock across my chest. Not cool. Also, some of the PSU cases on these mics are not properly grounded - they have earth ta...

Possibly one end of the pickup wires has lifted away from ground.

You could also check the correct polarising voltages are being sent from the PSU. I can't remember the schematic off the top of my head though.

Search for Telefunken EF14 and you will find datsheets. Otherwise look for Frank's Tube Data website.

My advice is double-check everything, take your time, and be very very neat with your soldering and wiring. If you can't make a shiny, wet solder joint with the right amount of solder, then don't bother.

Topic: PM100 Output transformer?

I think it's more like 1:1.5 actually. Ypu can probably skip your output coupling cap from the PM1000 if it has one since the Neve transformer is gapped to handle DC. Terminate the secondary with a 10nF polystyrene in series with 1K5 to tame slight ringing. The EZ1290 guide shows a simple wiring gui...

Check the polarisation voltage feeding the front diaphragm. You may need to check back to the PSU where it is derived (IIRC) Circuit is probably a Nady 1050 or something similar. Schematics are around.

Mic body has lost good continuity with ground. Not sure where it is done on this mic; possibly where the PCBs screw to the chassis, or at the XLR plug.

For the Carnhill it'll be 180pF and no resistor across the secondary.

It reduces ringing at high frequencies, so possibly expect smoother sound and less phase issues.

Re: Are there any mods for the M-Audio Audio Buddy?

It seems like a good platform for some mods, but I can't find any info about it online anywhere. I need a new wall wart for mine, but I don't want to get a new one if I can't make it sound any better. Opamps are SIL from what I remember. It's just a bunch of opamps. Not a great design, plus the pha...

Re: Measuring Voltage on a high impedance load

Yes, you'll load-down this resistance with your meter (say 10 Meg) so take this into consideration.
