broken Sunn Concert Lead

The guy I bought it from said he thinks one of the transistors in the output stage needs to be replaced. If there is ANY way I can do this myself, I would rather do it myself - I sent it to my normal "amp guy" and he doesn't touch SS stuff - the other guy has a 2 month turnaround, and will cost me a...

They didn't impose a time-frame for this, did they?

Somebody buy this man a bag of coffee...

when you compress, are you paying attention to the "attack" settings on your comp? do you have your ratios set to "limit"? Sorry, i just get the impression from your original post that you're more used to using comps as limiters. There is a difference, as you might well know, between limiting and co...

Wiggins, I think I would dissagree with you on the 5150. On more aggressive must (metal, hardcore) I have gotten some good sounds with a 5150. Yeah, I think I just hate the 5150 just because EVERYONE in a metal band records with one, and the sound gets really old and boring after the millionth reco...

Depends, also. Depends on the amp, context, but more importantly the cabinet and speakers. For example, I've never been able to make a Mesa Rectifier sound anywhere close to good when it's near gig volume. Same with the 5150, which just sounds like shit at any volume. Just for kicks I plugged the Re...

Wanted: Unloaded 2x15 or 1x15 cabinet

Hi - I'm looking for an unloaded 1x15 or 2x15 cab on the chizneap.

Dietz? Boogie Buster? those would be pretty neat, but anything will work.

Budget's not so huge, however.

I live in Atlanta. I'll drive for a local pickup if I need...

I don't have any experience with the guitar head you mentioned, but I recorded a band with the Ultrabass head a month or two ago. It takes some serious EQ tweaking, but you can get it to sound decent. If you have access to a different 1x15 or 2x15 cab, I'd use it. Behringer Cabs are complete shit. T...

Recording without a control room, as I've had to do out of necessity recently, has really helped me get cleaner, simpler recordings with what I have. If I'm not isolated from the source, I can't really hear well enough to needlessly fiddle around with EQ or comps while I'm trying to get sounds. I kn...

ditto - i just do the same as bitsyras and keep the levels a little lower during tracking. Honestly, i don't hear much of a difference unless the peak light is coming on, i wouldnt worry about it too much. good luck doing any kind of work on that thing, by the way - its a great machine and i love mi...

I use a Tascam 388 1/4" 8-track. Fun little guy. Cheap tape.

When I work/if-i-ever-get-to-work-again at Zero Return, its 2" 16 - Ampex MM1100 on GP9 at 15 ips. Mixdown to 1/4" GP9 at 15 ips.

I know what you mean - I feel "behind the times" because I make local recordings on a 1/4" 8-track - and they sound like it. Don't blame 1/4" 8 track machines... I get some bloody sweet ass sounds out of mine... and mine is an old one! Hey now, when i say "and they sound like it" I mean "and they s...
