Re: Seriously - is there any difference between bass guitars
I just want to go on the record as being someone that often says things like "ooooh, cool bass sound."Wolfman Sack wrote:Once a mix is done, bass fills out the low end but in most songs you don't go - OOO, listen to that bass tone!
P bass will cover everything you'll ever need to do.

Which Seagate Barracuda? ...or Other???
So after doing some seaching and asking I think I'm going to get the Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 as the second drive in my G5 2.3Ghz. The Raptors are too unstable in G5's. Some people have no problems at all yet many others freeze up like spit on a windshield in january. Anyway, so I go to newegg.com a...

(my first nyc synth repair experience was with armen when he was at rogue and i don't even want to get into how much that sucked). Everything about Rogue Music = theivery. Those guys are scoundrels even with Armen long gone. Be very very careful taking shit there and inspect anything you buy with a...

I made a well recieved, solid selling indie label record on a 1010 probably 6 years ago (?). They're so dirt cheap and rock solid in terms of stability you gotta love them but the Firepod is probably a better unit and better long term value. Neither are hi-fi but if you've got the skills, you can ma...

I thought it might be worth noting here that as I've been researching sampler puchases, samplers that are a mere 7 years old are now seemingly worth 1/10th of their initial selling price. Some of the old MPC's rule. A lot of current hiphop cats are still using the older units to great effect and se...

The key is to find the price breaks and shop shop shop, compare compare compare. I'm a smart guy, I'm a talented guy and I trust myself. I've made good records and with a fresh pair of ears I can judge gear pretty well. I never totally trust what's being said on boards until I hear a unit myself. Th...

My 2 favs happen to be ribbons, Royer 121 and Beyer M160. All the mid range meat and silky highs with none of that nassal 2-cycle dirt bike thing that can happen with 57's and 421's. M160's can be had for $400 or $500 and you'll never sell it. The best value to be had for the best guitar tone captur...

Grommes/Frazier Tube Mixers?
I see these occasionally and have always been curious. Anyone got one who cares to speak on it? They look very similar to (and are often listed as an alternative to )1567a's in design but I don't know about quality etc. Are they noisy? What are they good for?

Randall MTS combos as budget recording amps
Has anybody tried these? These are the modular all tube amps that came out at the end of last year? I went to a dealer a week ago, mostly to just dispel any foolish notion of buying a Randal and I dare say that it actually sounded really good. It confused and disturbed my poor little brain. Of cours...

I have a thread over there right now about mid-level monitors and the very first post was someone telling me I would never be happy and my mixes would always suffer if I spent less than 10K on a pair of monitors. Of course he owns these monitors, has tried everything else and I shouldn't even bother...

Um, China? Listed in English currency? All of his ads look totally different than one another, different pics, different text styles ie... cut and pastes from old auctions? No reserves, no history, no personal explanations or common denominators. Everything about this guy says con-job. So, hurry up ...

Nasal Dirtbike Guitars ...ala Randy Rhodes & other 80's metal. Some great stuff I guess but that tone, like a fucking Kawaski 1000 run thru your nose. Tenor Sax ...why I can't listen to Sting. Put a tenor sax on your record and the only people who now listen to you wear only dockers, loafers and th...
