Re: Mixing with the band there

I had a couple guys from the band I'm currently working with stop by to go through their notes in real time and make whatever adjustments they wanted. They left happy. Then, of course, I start getting the texts... "wait, can we also do this and that and this and that?" Oi. I'm starting to despise re...

Tried that once a long time ago. It wasn't horrible, but I'm not going there anymore.
This made my night.

Re: reference listening

I would use my phone like a USB connected thumb drive before I'd play through the Aux connector (then you are adding that D2A converter, and the A2D of whatever you plugged into - into the sound). I'm pretty sure the Aux/headphone jack on my phone probably sucks. I hadn't thought of that, but that ...

Re: reference listening

What about adding files to your phone? Actually downloading them to the device, I mean. When I need to reference a mix on different systems, I will usually just add the 24/48 bounces and use an AUX cable. Am I loosing something by doing that? I definitely notice a big difference if I'm streaming fro...

I can't remember ever coming out on top when I had a disagreement with a FoH guy as talent.
I could go on and on about this stuff, but I won't bog this forum down with all my cursing.

You'll run out of DSP super fast with a duo. I have a Quad and it's often not enough.

Re: Death by Audio “Echo Master” vs Voco-Loco as vocal chain ?

Most sound-guys are dicks. Not that I disagree, but you usually don't get better sound by pissing them off from the get go. You usually don't get better sound by letting them have all the control either (in my experience). p.s. I used to do FOH, and never once gave a band a hard time for something ...

I was always under the impression that FOH guys hated it when talent shows up with those things, but I could be way off. I haven't done FOH for years. (Decades?!)

Re: 500 series racks - how much power do I need?

The Buzz Elixirs (which I love) are a good test for this. They draw A LOT of current. I'm surprised at how many manufacturers say this won't be an issue and then either one of the units won't work or there will be a hum or something. That said, the Purple Sweet Ten is super-solid, dead quiet, built...

Re: Mixing with the band there

It depends. If they do attend, I usually will get the mix damn near complete, then have the band, or the primary representative of the band join me for final real-time tweaks. Often though, the band has no interest in being present and I don't blame them. It's probably painfully boring to most. I tr...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Just bought a Purple MC77. I feel like doing cartwheels. I've wanted one for so damn long. Been on my list for a really long time too. You'll have to share your thoughts once you put it to work. Did a mix last night with it on vocals. My thoughts are  I'll let you know when I have a chance t...
