Just bought a Purple MC77. I feel like doing cartwheels. I've wanted one for so damn long.

Re: Is my situation condusive to a Monitor puchase?

Keep your headphones, add the monitors. Listen on both. Wait, save a few hundred bucks and then buy some OC 703, some fabric and some hardware and try and tame your room a little more. Step by step.... This. Just buy bulk CD-Rs too, so you can go back and forth to your car, etc. It'll help you lear...

Re: Anyone try Neumann KH 80 monitors?

Considering a new small set of monitors for my very small but treated, bedroom studio and these came up. I realize that the 4” woofer may lead to some skepticism, but given the size and squareness of my room I feel like bigger monitors would be problematic. At about $1000 for a pair, these are prob...

Re: Mixing a band with a single, mono electric guitar

Here's an example of the 2 mic hard-panned on one amp deal. The gory details: Gibson SG -> Electronic Audio Experiments Mu Blaster -> Marshall JMP 2204 (super cranked) -> vintage Marshall 4x12 with Greenbacks and G12H30s -> sE VR1 (GB) / 421 (H30) -> Great River preamps -> Capi 553F (with the tinies...

Re: Mixing a band with a single, mono electric guitar

By the way, here's what i learnt to align mics on amps: have the guitar player plug/unplug. Buzz, crackle, bang. Zoom in on the waveform, move one of the mics, record again, closer, repeat, now they combine nicely. I know many of you know that already but it doesn't hurt for the two people stumblin...

Re: Mixing a band with a single, mono electric guitar

I haven't done this a lot, but there are a couple regular clients that operate this way (live, no overdubs except vocals). I think you just have to be simple in the approach and realized that the how the bass comes out is going to have a huge impact on how the guitars come out. 2 different amps pann...

Re: The Bad Plus

LOVE them! They kinda lost me when they started working with that vocalist, but otherwise, brilliant. I got hooked on them from The Happy Apples, right around the time that first album came out. Chris Garges Charlotte, NC Agree. The vocalist was a turnoff for me as well, but "Suspicious Activity" a...

Re: Recording Mac in 2019

My experiences running PT on a mac mini have been pretty awful, BUT, the one I was trying it on was an older model so I'm guessing the specs have improved rather dramatically between then and now. I've been using a Macbook pro for the past couple years, because I need the mobility and it's been [mos...

Hamptone JFET 500 series
2x Hairball Lola (have to build them still)

EDIT: built the DIY 990 opamps. JESUS H. "Op amps aren't so bad." he says. Anyways. That was a tense couple of hours.

Re: Monitor dilemma

Yea, I agree that the NS10 is not the best choice. I realize people do good mixes on them, but they sound like shit and if you're going to be sitting in front of a pair of speakers for hours, you should enjoy it a little.
