Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I'll also check out the D770's (250ohm). LOL. I bought DT770s recently, mostly because of fond memories of trying them out many years ago, & because they're a lot cheaper than they used to be. When my kid tried them on, he was like, "Wow, those sound good!" Which is what's great & not-so-great abou...

You can get "eyedropper" type bottles if DeOxit.
That's good to know!

I've found myself wanting that quite a few times.

Re: Good place to get mics serviced?

Very often it's dirt in the switch. I'd be hesitant to blast de-oxit anywhere near the capsule but exercising the switch may clear up the issue. Always the first move. I just went through 16 channels of PM1000 that were dodgy and 100% of them work fine now after exercising every switch, pot and fad...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I don't know if there is something wrong with them or what, but man, they do not sound good to me at all. Definitely sending them back. is there a break-in period on those? I've got some of the DT 770 Pro (250) phones i like (after many years with Sony MDR-7506) for occasional reference. I mean, th...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Picked up a pair of Neumann NDH20 headphones because I have some sessions coming up where I won't have a dedicated control room for monitoring, and my current reference pair are open-backed (ath-r70x... amazing). I don't know if there is something wrong with them or what, but man, they do not sound...

Re: "harsh frequencies"

It's definitely ear-dependent. I'm highly sensitive to 2k, 4k for example. Likely from years of standing in front of a Marshall full stack on stage (even with earplugs). I will do a narrow bandwidth cut and comb through the 2-11k region on cymbals a lot and see if at any point I hear an improvement ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Neumann NDH20 headphones, because none of the studios near me have well constructed/isolated control rooms and I'm sick of getting back to my mix room and finding a myriad of issues after sessions.

Re: Smart cable hanging solution?

I just use long nails typically. I have some screw in brackets that hunters use to hold their weapons when in a tree stand as well. They work great and are low profile.

Re: Echoboy vs Echoboy jr

I have both and use them a lot. The Junior probably sees more time, but I don't usually get real deep into delay. When I want to, Sr. is there. They both sound great. What I'm interested in is the comment about applying pre delay to reverb sends... I did not know this trick. Please explain further!...

Re: Echoboy vs Echoboy jr

Get the full version. The Jr. is cool. I use it when I want something fast and basic, adding pre-delay to reverb sends, utilitarian stuff.

The full version is insane though, and there are a TON of sick presets to get you moving. Definitely worth $49, by a lot.

Un-vaxx'd or unwilling to prove it, mask.

Vaxx'd to the max, no mask.

Re: Mentoring and Giving Mix Feedback

I try hard to avoid this sort of thing. I HATE critiquing another person's mix. I don't necessarily think that is a good quality, but I'm incapable of not being brutally honest and/or hiding my distaste for something, and I'm also incapable of not feeling like I'm sapping a person's mojo when I do. ...

Re: PM1000 Capacitor List for re-cap project - look ok?

did you add bypass caps? and of course credit goes to Jim Williams for the tip... but he suggested (and I did it on many) adding Wima MKS2 0.01uF caps across all of the larger Electrolytic caps. the idea being the high frequencies will "bypass" and give you more "air". I'm sure you need golden ears...
