Re: 500 Series EQ

Even the DOAs don't look too daunting. The boards are pretty easy. The DOAs require a little extra care. The components and pads are very close together and if you overheat or slop solder, then it shorts and burns. or if you go too fast and insert the transistors backward even though the documentat...

Re: 500 Series EQ

also, check out the Klark Teknik EQP-KT. super cheap for a rackmount Pultec style EQ. I had one but my UAD Pultec was so much easier to use and sounded as good to me... so bye-bye EQP-KT... but if you like hardware, it's not bad.

Re: 500 Series EQ

The 80's EQ? I am not sure I would like that I believe it is based on a Studer 169 console EQ. but I never used either so have no opinion. 8) As for the colour modules and the MP586C pres I have, you need to use the input gain and the output level to adjust the "color" you get out of the modules co...

Re: dark condensers on the cheap for high SPLs

pretty easy... (although I'm writing this from memory..) 1. use a flashlight and make a note of which side of the capsule faces front (i.e., the side with the screw/lug in the center aligns with the switches for HPF/pad). or take pictures, like I didn't... 2. use a small flat blade to loosen the bra...

Re: dark condensers on the cheap for high SPLs

I just picked up another X1D yesterday (used) for $50. it had some dents in the windscreen, so now I am also an expert in disassembly of these mics. 8) anyway, looks much better now and still sounds as good as the other one.

Re: Apollo Masters Burned Down

I think I may have sold 3 CDs on bandcamp - and not the same CD. Anyway, rarely sell downloads there either and Bandcamp (as far as I know) does not pay out for streaming royalties like others do. Not exactly sure how that works, but somewhere when I signed up I probably agreed to that in some deep ...

Re: 500 Series EQ

Look at the CAPI stuff. If you can build it, then you'll save. https://capi-gear.com/ Also check out https://barthrk.com/. if you do order, just have patience. It will take a long time to ship (3-4 weeks maybe) and the tracking info will seem like its dead... and then eventually it just shows up at ...

Re: Time for some home studio upgrades...help me spend $10K

if you want a really good all around 500 pre I'd recommend the A-Designs P1 (like the pacifica but in a 500 module - styled after the Quad 8 ). the CAPI are again good for that "API" sound, or look for some "Old School Audio" pres (but many are older and need fixin now). The Hairball Audio Copper is...

Re: Apollo Masters Burned Down

I'll be honest, I prefer CDs over vinyl. I sold my turntable and most of my vinyl (only kept a few) years ago and never looked back. the pops and scratches and wear -- while my CDs have not worn out... and maybe I had a shitty turntable and stylus, but I was OK with CDs. Especially after they finall...

hmmm... I was going to commend you on your ability to resurrect ancient, dead threads, but this one is probably best served with a new topic. or are you saying your favorite piece of gear is a suit?
