Re: Speaker switcher recommendations

I looked at how nice the $1000+ Coleman' are, slapped myself, then built one. I wanted it totally passive and I did not need a volume control (my UAD Apollo 16 has that), so I got a heavy duty 4PDT toggle switch like this (not this exact one, I think I got mine from Mouser...): https://smile.amazon....

Re: the return of the ubertar ribbon mic

cool. the door is very "pignose'.... i can see where having both options would be useful. With the back closed it's much more immediate, and maybe a bit lo-fi too. with the back open its much more natural sounding I guess? so many options for donor chassis's too.... :D

Re: Mixing with the band there

sometimes if trying to do a quick rough mix then sometimes there is no choice but otherwise I agree with you - I prefer to have some time for ME to focus and then have the band listen once I've got it dialed in a bit (and any editing done if needed). I also found that providing a very rough mix that...

sounds like lots of bottom snare mic and some kind of quick slapback on the snare too.

note: I listened on crappy headphones...

Re: transparent 500 series pre

yes, there always seems to be a sale ending soon... "final going out of business sale!". he could be selling furniture or flooring... but I had no problems with ordering. I received tracking and although it disappeared for a week and a half, it then showed up in US customs and USPS tracking took ove...

Re: transparent 500 series pre

I would also recommend a couple that I have used: Danfield Audio MX20vpr (Danfield Audio is out of business so only if you can find one used) - I use this one with my Slate ML-1 and ML-2 mics FiveFish SC-1 mk500 (if you can find them used) or I think the replacement is now SC501. https://www.fivefis...

Listening to mixes in the car...

I'm sure we all do it. and it takes a while to get used to your car's sound with and without variables like road noise, passengers, air conditioning running at full blast... but since I'm going to be in the car anyway, I'm going to listen to something. Anyway, I listen to mixes these days that are M...

Re: tracking headphones 2019 (for the performers)

I have a pair of "Musician's Gear" from MF that look an awful lot like those Monoprice phones. I've got a pair of these too ("More Me"): https://vintageking.com/moreme-deluxe-headphones they are loud, but not really that great sounding. Not a lot of low-end. To me, the "loud" is lots of mids so thes...

Re: tracking headphones 2019 (for the performers)

I have some ATH-M30's that I kinda like. Lower cost than the M50's but usually even the bass player will track with them. I used the Vic Firth for a long time too but they are terribly uncomfortable and don't really sound that good. I upgraded my drum cans to the Direct Sound EX-29. Better overall s...

Re: Anyone try Neumann KH 80 monitors?

I'm only commenting because I also have the Equator D5's. I like them for a "second opinion", especially for mid-rangy stuff (vocals, guitars) and sometimes good for hearing reverb tails a little better. But my main monitors are the Dynaudio BM6A. I was going to recommend them but just checked and t...

Re: Mixing a band with a single, mono electric guitar

like vvv, I've done the close mic and room mic, then process and pan. Or sometimes had a send with low-level effects (delay or reverb, etc.) and panned it opposite of the guitar track. I have also often used the Soundtoys Microshift (which will change the mono-track to a stereo track) then adjust pan...

If you can pull the board out to re-flow solder joints, that's going to be my guess. Seems to be the leading cause these days.

Re: AML ez1073?

I have owned one of these for several years now -- http://www.audiomaintenance.com/acatalog/AML-16-016_extended_info.html it was not a kit, but pre-assembled. similar but not exactly like the kit. It's a really nice pre and I've used it on a lot of sources. the guys at AML (Colin I think?) were help...
