Re: 1073's... Real deal or one of the many clones?
These look fun. https://www.audiomaintenance.com/acatalog/aml-17-038_extended_info.html I just pulled the trigger on a second 5003D (used) today - it's an older pre that was not a kit - but you'll notice that it looks pretty similar to that one... https://vintageking.com/aml-5003d looks like a pret...

Re: How Do I Test A D.I. Box?
Set the meter to 200 Ohms. Can't get a steady reading but it seems to settle down somewhere between 3 and 3.5 without knowing more about the transformer used it's difficult say anything about that other than it's not "open" and it's probably not shorted to ground. But that's a start. You really nee...

Re: 1073's... Real deal or one of the many clones?
I'm not specifically talking "vintage" since Neve also makes current 1073 preamps. except then they are still just clones right? I mean even if Rupert did work there, or helped design it, or whatever, its still likely to differ as component choices and availability changed. And Neve is AMS, AMEK, R...

Re: Size Matters!
I use dual monitors, only because that was the easiest way to get both edit and mix windows in front of me with Pro Tools (and even so, I usually have to wear reading glasses to see the small stuff). But I have only so much space between the monitors so it's a tight fit for two 24" (curved Samsung)....

Re: 1073's... Real deal or one of the many clones?
I think with anything that is truly vintage (like a real 1073 from a console) you are going to have maintenance - recapping, replacing pots, any other mechanical parts (buttons, etc.). I love vintage gear and I also hate vintage gear (if it's not working). Sometimes the clones are really good, or go...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I did order this: https://www.proaudiostar.com/audix-club-kit.html for $169+ tax, you get a D6, i5, OM2, mic clips, and an aluminum flight case (and from what I understand some other stuff too - coffee mug, t-shirt, etc) and that's all for less than what they want for just the D6 mic ($199). So eve...

we are talking a $16 DI here though? --https://www.gear4music.com/us/en/PA-DJ- ... I-Box/1SDA
I wouldn't expect to much in ease of serviceability (even though all the advice offered above is valid).

Re: Tracking bands without a console is a PITA!
Do they run on the latest version of PT? How does that work? Any of the Avid HD or TDM stuff requires Pro Tools Ultimate (and you can look up the prices on that...). Although I hear that Avid Carbon comes with Ultimate, it can still work with Studio. I'm using Studio with my Apollo and I will still...

Re: Tracking bands without a console is a PITA!
UA Console is easy to use (once you get your head around it) and I also once had an Orion 32 so I agree that it also has good monitoring/routing software. I also had a Lynx Aurora and it was pretty flexible too (I like the UA best of these). I wonder if it matters which generation of the Scarlett 18...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I should really try those myself. I had some of the mopad style foam blocks (but off-brand) and they were worthless. I forgot about these - they would fit perfectly where I need them too...

Re: Tracking bands without a console is a PITA!
I thought the Focusrite Scarlett had some kind of console-like app too? If you can monitor through that, then just mute all your inputs in Logic (while tracks are armed) and that should take care of any latency issues. With the Apollo I can put a reverb on a vocal track or whatever if I want (and no...

Re: How Do I Test A D.I. Box?
if you can send some audio to it (even if it's just audio from a phone or whatever) then you should be able to measure some voltage (put your DMM on AC, although it will likely be under 1VAC) and then just see if you can get that on the 1/4" input, and then again across the XLR (voltage will be even...
