Re: Covid-19 takes Adam Schlesinger, Wallace Roney and Ellis Marsalis

I see so many people posting about online "concerts" and if you are a solo artist I'm all for it. Get online and put it out there. If you already live together, well then you might as well make music. But if you are getting the band together with a film/audio crew... don't! It's just not worth it. I...

Re: TOMB kinda slow lately?

It's not my ISP. everything else is fine. could be virus/anti-malware on my system doesn't like something on the pages but it's also very intermittent. Sometimes those ad servers are geographically based too, so maybe only affects my area. Sometimes it works fine and other times I get no posts, or a...

TOMB kinda slow lately?

anyone else notice TOMB not returning full pages, or at least taking a very long time when it does? Maybe it's the ad servers? I usually see the top ad OK though. Or maybe with everyone working online the hosting is just slow? or maybe it needs a reset? I don't seem to experience the same slowness f...

Re: When there's drums in the bass mic

or try a multiband compressor? And do anyEQ moves while both the bass and drum tracks are active(vs. just bass solo'd). Maybe the bleed can work?

Re: placing a room mic on amp / phase

when I use room mics (for drums or guitars) I usually either put them in fig-8 with the null facing the subject (amp, drums, etc.) and that gets more reflections off the opposing walls (as mentioned earlier), or I'll put it in Omni mode, or in cardioid mode I'll face it opposite of the subject and p...

Re: I highly recommend REAPER

I still have both my Digi 001 and TDM system with my Mac G4 10.3.9! None of that shit sells for anything so I'm just hanging onto as a backup/nostalgia. if you try to pull up a really old session, chances are some missing plugin or other new "feature" will bite you anyway, so probably not a bad pla...

Re: I highly recommend REAPER

I'm certainly not a fan of Avid, but I don't see myself not using it right now. I did look at Reaper a few years ago but it was not quite as intuitive to me at that time. Of course I don't know if anyone has ever said PT is intuitive, but I feel like I know it pretty well. I also had a Dig001 and 6....

you might also want to clean, or just "exercise" (move them back and forth a lot) the input gain knobs to make sure they are not just stuck full on for those hissy channels. same for any of the EQ.

Re: Live Off the Floor in a Small Room

Mine is 19x27 so not too much different in size. I have "superchunks" in all 4 corners and then other absorption in strategic places. The construction is an external brick veneer and 2x6 frame with 2 layers of sheetrock inside (overlapping seams, each caulked/sealed separately). I never thought I co...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I did check with Bill D and he said based on the (handwritten) serial #, his book says "Oak" but he wondered if his book was wrong. Said it might be Yellowheart (a Brazilian hardwood). But it was built in 2000 so can't blame him for not remembering. :D either way, it sounds great.

stave shell?
a Stave shell is typically vertically oriented like a barrel. this one is a horizontal butcher block construction. I bought it used but should probably ask Bill D about it.

Pork Pie Butcher Block 6x14 snare. Really nice crack to it. It is butcher block construction not just a veneer. thick shell.
