I like 421's.
The e604's aren't bad either.

Re: Plug-in suggestions for the minimalist studio
PluginAlliance is having a "leap year" sale right now (even though it is not leap year), so if you check their site, there is a coupon to get (almost) any plugin for $29.99 USD. I have the Waves SSL package but I just picked up the Brainworx SSL E-channel too. I think they will likely have these one...

Anyone have a Mojave MA200 Mic?
I have a pair of them, but they were both purchased second hand and at different times. I noticed that one has a 5-pin cable and the other has a 7-pin cable. These are cardioid only so need for more than 5 conductors. I asked Mojave support but never received a reply. It seems reasonable that Mojave...

Re: Favorite use for Tape Op ribbon
pretty sure it was a group buy and that the Apex 205 is the same mic (or really close). Now I only see an Apex 210B for sale. I have a Nady RSM-2 and it's essentially the same guts. Useful mic for some sources. http://recordinghacks.com/microphones/Apex-Electronics/205 http://recordinghacks.com/micr...

Re: Recording Chain notation
I will typically use the scribble strip at the bottom of the PT faders. notes like: MA5/M82 HBCU/M80 Tele/rearPU/Rebel20/fathead/5003D that tells me the mic, preamp, and if guitar what kind, which PU, amp, mic etc. only so much you can fit in that space. I recall seeing a notepad plugin once that wo...

Re: repairing a TRS jack on Hafler Pro 2400
you might be able to bend the leads on one of the Rean/Neutrik jacks to make it fit too. it's not offset too far, but it wouldn't be a perfect fit either.

Re: Plug-in suggestions for the minimalist studio
I still use several Waves plugins too. SSL channel (E and G), Ren EQ, CLA 3A, 76, 2A. I even bought many of these before the days of the $29 plugin (which is almost every day now). but I don't keep up on the WUP and do not plan to. If they stop working at some point I will have to decide if I really...

I think this is what you need: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/REAN-Neutrik/NYS219/?qs=JfNPhaIww3LITsHAYmNkxA%3D%3D you might want to check the height of it - check the datasheet - but I think it looks right otherwise, maybe this one -- https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/REAN-Neutrik/NYS215/?...

Re: M/S on the mix - am I doing it right?
some plugins have m/s options, which is different than, as Nick points out, recording mid/side. I have the Dangerous Music (Brainworx) Bax EQ and I often use it on my master bus in "mid/side" mode. That allows me to EQ the mid and sides separately. Processing in m/s mode is also not really mixing m/...

Re: Headphone mix suggestions?
I had the Art Headamp before I got the Nady (that I posted a link to earlier). I sold it because I could not figure out how to route the 4 cue pairs from the UAD Apollo to 6 channels on the ART Headamp. The only way that would work is to treat the UAD console cue sends as mono (pan hard left or righ...
