Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

and something light to sit on. It's fantastic. I can be loaded out faster than a guitarist! my something light to sit on was a Cajon... and yes, I was packed up before everyone else. One time I got stuck in traffic and showed up 5 minutes before a gig. no sweat, only took me 3 minutes to setup! I j...

I've got a broken one. couldn't figure out for sure, but I think the capsule is shot. I recall we used to use this on sax (live gigs) and it was pretty good...

Re: Smart cable hanging solution?

this is semi-related, but here's what I did to re-gain some floor space. instead of having a bunch of mic stands sitting around with open tripods, I got some of those hanging tool holders like you might find in a garage (holding rakes) and put them down near the ground at just enough height to keep ...

I'll also check out the D770's (250ohm). LOL.
check out the prices at proaudiostar.com. especially the open-box prices (which may or may not really be opened...)

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I have a bunch of acoustic gigs lately, so I've gotten both a DW foot tambourine, and a Meinl foot cabasa. Today's rehearsal will be the first time with both... I've also been known to take a loop of velcro and tie a few shakers around my ankle... those little foot tambourines are great though. I'v...

Re: policies on vax or non-vax

had my first vocal recording session yesterday - she is vaccinated too (so no masks). and of course we've been having band rehearsals too for a few weeks (and everyone has their shots there too). anyway, it feels good to be doing studio work again. Even played on a live gig (2 weeks ago now). It was...

Re: Too old?

ok, while we are on that path... I moved to Austin TX in August of 1989. I had seen SRV a couple times, but not in Austin. by this time I think he was living in the Dallas, but he did come to Austin and we thought... let's catch him next time around. and in August of 1990 he was gone. so if you have...

Re: Lost in Translation

I have to believe that some how "tubes" or "valves" became "gallbladder machine". I guess if the AI machines do take over, at least our vintage tube equipment will be safe (the machines don't understand it)

I don't know if there is something wrong with them or what, but man, they do not sound good to me at all. Definitely sending them back.
is there a break-in period on those?

I've got some of the DT 770 Pro (250) phones i like (after many years with Sony MDR-7506) for occasional reference.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

surprisingly it's gone pretty good. One reason is that my old drives were sata SSDs and I moved one over as-is, but re-installed onto a new boot drive (which is now NVMe). Then I have one of those USB3 to Sata dongles so I could mount the previous boot drive and copy missing pieces over... (like pro...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I decided to upgrade my PC (Dell XPS from a few years ago to a current generation Dell XPS). Both are i5's but 4 years has made some difference... (higher cpu mark, but also faster memory speed, etc). now the arduous task of moving everything over to the new system. Of course I will use this opportu...

Are you doing your own fixup work?
I'm attempting it. there is plenty of info out there... and it seems better to me now, but I'm a drummer so what the hell do I know? the real test comes later today when I have some real guitar players check it out.

and backup #2. or maybe for inspiration. Firefly FF338. Made in China. this one needed a bit more work. sharp fret edges, buzzy A string. but got that taken care of, new strings, and intonation setup and I think it's a winner too (about $225 shipped w/tax). it does have some weird spots on the fretb...

so I got this... the "Ivy" or "iyv to be exact... (In-Yen Vietnam). Amazon special. I think it's real spalted maple veneer. Looks great. definitely nothing special underneath. usually you can give a semi-hollow a "thunk" and you hear it echo a bit of tone. this one sounds like slapping dried out roa...
