Re: (Demonic) Pencil Tool in Protools

you may want to look at the Avid documentation for keyboard shortcuts to make sure you aren't accidentally invoking the pencil tool when you mean to do something else? Or perhaps you have a sticky key on your keyboard that is doing it for you? or are you saying that some audio that you modified with...

How important is the mics being mirrored to each other? I always wonder if I'm only trying to do that because I like visual symmetry.
I never worried about it. Point em where you want em. I uses different mics on top and bottom anyway.

Re: United Pugin $5 sale

Cool. Got the Royale with Cheese, the Morphverb, and the Quick Attorney General. I had the other 2 but got the QAG myself today - might come in handy some day - at least something to try if the usual suspects don't work. Any Idea of how long the sale is going? email I got says the sale goes through...

United Pugin $5 sale

Like the title says -- unitedplugins.com/ a few on sale for their 5th anniversary. If you skip over everything else, get the "Royal Compressor". I've had this one awhile and I like it. Also Morphverb is really cool too and again only $5 (or €5) $5 for a plugin is crazy. AND they provide free updates.

I had a Yamaha kit with those turning lugs back in the day. Man, those drums sounded great but I HATED changing heads on them. The lugs are supposed to make it easier but I thought they were a PITA.
yeah, same here. they did NOT make it easier.

Re: DIY drum sample pack

I mean you could, but there is a plethora of material out there already. And sure, you could try to make something unique that nobody else has but will that really matter? A long time ago (in a galaxy not so far away) I made my own samples for Drumagog and would use them occasionally (when I still h...

I only have one snare, which I bought for my wife back when she wanted to play drums. I take it to tracking sessions with me just in case. 14" brass Yamaha.

Re: Snares - what’s everyone using nowadays?

My buddy left a Supraphonic at my place on indefinite loan. I put a new head on it and it just sounds weird. Not sure if there's a warped hoop or something, but it's very underwhelming. Haven't had the time or motivation to investigate further. it's not often, but you can definitely get a bad drum ...

sometimes a Remo ambassador sounds "right" to me too. I have snares with Evans and Aquarian heads too, but man, the Ambassador is just sometimes the one.

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

other people would probably hate my sessions. I do a lot of drum tracking, so I got used to having the drums to the right - only the AUX busses and master fader are further right (master is furthest). Then my guide tracks would be to the left and click furthest left. I got used to that, so then I us...

Re: Snares - what’s everyone using nowadays?

a Worldmax "Jade Tiger" 5x14, The Supraphonic has definitely been on my list but I have never pulled the trigger. Also I have wanted a hammered bronze ever since seeing Bill Stewart perform. His whole set sound is unbelievable. I love the looks of that world max Jade Tiger. Is that aluminum or stee...

Re: Snares - what’s everyone using nowadays?

AIt records a bit thinner than it sounds in real life, which is a bit of a head scratcher. Mics, placement, heads, tuning, the room - so many factors. This is actually why I have a lot of snares. Once I get them in a sweet spot I tend to not want to change them. Then when I want that certain sound ...

Re: Snares - what’s everyone using nowadays?

Fun! Time for drummers to nerd out. I have a bunch of snares (but I won't say collector - they get used). Over 20 for sure. For gigs it depends on the venue. I have a Ludwig Supraphonic LM400 (the 5x14) that has S-hoops on top and bottom (because I rescued this snare from years of abuse) and Puresou...

Re: dynamic mics and speaker coils?

Ribbon mics have magnets. Ribbon mics have been around for a long time (longer than me). Speakers have magnets. Also been around a long time. I think as long as your not trying to mic the back of an open cabinet and getting really really close (and if so, why?) I think it's probably safe. I've certa...

there's a color intensity slider that helps (although not sure how much if you are in dark mode lol)
