Re: Snares - what’s everyone using nowadays?

sometimes a Remo ambassador sounds "right" to me too. I have snares with Evans and Aquarian heads too, but man, the Ambassador is just sometimes the one.

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

other people would probably hate my sessions. I do a lot of drum tracking, so I got used to having the drums to the right - only the AUX busses and master fader are further right (master is furthest). Then my guide tracks would be to the left and click furthest left. I got used to that, so then I us...

Re: Snares - what’s everyone using nowadays?

a Worldmax "Jade Tiger" 5x14, The Supraphonic has definitely been on my list but I have never pulled the trigger. Also I have wanted a hammered bronze ever since seeing Bill Stewart perform. His whole set sound is unbelievable. I love the looks of that world max Jade Tiger. Is that aluminum or stee...

Re: Snares - what’s everyone using nowadays?

AIt records a bit thinner than it sounds in real life, which is a bit of a head scratcher. Mics, placement, heads, tuning, the room - so many factors. This is actually why I have a lot of snares. Once I get them in a sweet spot I tend to not want to change them. Then when I want that certain sound ...

Re: Snares - what’s everyone using nowadays?

Fun! Time for drummers to nerd out. I have a bunch of snares (but I won't say collector - they get used). Over 20 for sure. For gigs it depends on the venue. I have a Ludwig Supraphonic LM400 (the 5x14) that has S-hoops on top and bottom (because I rescued this snare from years of abuse) and Puresou...

Re: dynamic mics and speaker coils?

Ribbon mics have magnets. Ribbon mics have been around for a long time (longer than me). Speakers have magnets. Also been around a long time. I think as long as your not trying to mic the back of an open cabinet and getting really really close (and if so, why?) I think it's probably safe. I've certa...

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

there's a color intensity slider that helps (although not sure how much if you are in dark mode lol)

just use colors that don't hurt your eyes and it's all good - you will be staring at them all day!

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

I also just want to say that I hate "dark mode" and turn that off first thing (then it's good unless I'm asked by Avid support to clear prefs - which is the first thing they ask you to do whether it is relevant or not). Also, probably because I'm using track coloring (which I'm guessing maybe you ha...

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

the solo button is greyed out and when I solo I get nothing. I THINK the group track is an Aux track? It shows as a bus in the output of my snare track. for some stupid reason that is the default now when you create a new AUX track. Avid calls it "solo safe" (look it up). I always just "ctrl+click"...

Re: New DAW?

You might also check out Cakewalk - https://www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk?lang=en - it's free (in exchange for your email login to authorize it) and it's maybe somewhat intuitive? I opened it a couple times just to export some tracks for someone that did not have a PC. I was able to do that pret...

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

...Looks up the Pro Tools multi-band splitter since I'm not familiar. Looks like I might have it (even as part of PT Studio), but also looks like a lot of work lol. TBH I've avoided most of the extra Avid plugins because I was not sure if I'd be keeping the "support" active every year (but I have so...

Re: Channel Strip Plugins

same. A plugin "template" maybe gets misconstrued, but that's what it is. a starting point. it doesn't mean cookie cutter. When I'm doing drum tracks it's a place to start. Or when I've got a singer songwriter and we're doing 20 songs that we want to sound somewhat similar, I'm using the same starti...

Re: Signals confusion

They now make quite a few FRFR (full range, flat response) amps that generally have a combo line/instrument jack on them. Those are meant for plugging modeling devices into (like the Fractal and Kemper's) but should work equally fine with a synth/keyboard. I know a lot of keyboard players that just ...
