From a recording perspective it would be very interesting to hear one single guitar sound so different in the hands of each different player.

Yes, I was going to go back and mention that and you beat me to it. If you like the sound of a guitar fx pedal use the keymaster or even a little mackie mixer with an aux send.

On behalf of live sound engineers everywhere, please don't use a guitar pedal in your vocal chain - they almost always diminish mic performance. Use something with proper mic level inputs like the TC Electronic Helicon Stuff.

Its an interesting question. I was mixing a hip hop track and I added a triggered sine wave at 32hz to complement the kick. it sounded great on most systems, however I transferred the 44/16 file to my iPod and it distorted on every kick. Not the earbuds but the ipod itself. I plugged the ipod into a...

Agreed, it was a great article - and something that I want to experiment with. Was it written as a response to the color box thread a while back:

The Encore 100's are really good and make for a great alternative to the SM58. They sound very similar to a 58 except slightly less lo-mid. Onstage, you can get them really loud in the monitors before feeding back which is a big plus.

I would be very interested in purchasing one. Since you are local, i would also love for you to come down to the Highline Ballroom where we can put it up on some guitar cabs and listen to them on a large PA system.

Price around $2900.

Kind of a glorified summing box with inserts. Might be nice for the project studio. Discuss.

Some of these posts are priceless. There is another perspective on house gear. Many clubs in NYC don't have the room to store 4 drum kits, 4 bass rigs, 4 oboes etc. Also most NYC musicians don't have cars - so the policy has its merits. But sadly a lot of house gear is not well kept - but again who ...

I used to play in bands, I do live sound for a living, I have been the production manager at 3 venues and I have seen all sides of the equation. I would not open a club in this city as its too demanding. Arcane laws that are impossible to follow, FDNY and NYPD coming in at all hours disrupting busin...

+1 on the Senn HD 280s. I travel a lot and they do a better job of isolating you from the roar of the jet engines than the 7506's

Not all mixing has to happen at the console. On smaller stages it helps to get each musician who uses an amp to play with the drummer and set amp volumes so they can hear themselves balanced against the drums. If you do this with each person the band is already mixed and you are using the PA to fill...
