I was going to suggest a sennheiser 441. It's a good vocal mic (yes yes, stevie nicks...). I've never had anyone hold it, but it'd be my choice. Frankly you could probably just take the clip off a 421 and hand it to them.

a backup is a fine idea.

Thanks- I haven't seen a plastic handle with a brass insert at my hardware store, but that gives me hope that I can find one. Look here: http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=1576 this is a good place that has oddball stuff for the creative. Look at the bottom of this page for a link to other kin...

So maby I am a little confused here, but why are you going to be less careful with an orange cable than with a black one? Are you thinking that one end of the cable gets pluged into the wall and the other into my mouth? I understand being careful as there is power in mains cables but no more in it ...

For that nut handle thingy...go to the local hardware store and get a new clutch bolt, and a plastic handle with a threaded brass insert that matches the new bolt. My local hardware store sell this kinda stuff and several times a year I get a few bolt/handle combinations so I have them on hand to r...

Re: yup

I love this idea, and yet it's completely stupid at the same time. I'm guessing you don't have interns... Reminds me of a far side cartoon, where the Rat family is at the breakfast table and the mother is getting down a box from the cupboard and saying "Whoa, this isn't cereal; it's rat poison. Say,...

Re: Black Audio

Black audio went out of business a couple of years ago, i remember seeing the web site announcement. I was pretty sure they went out of business. But why doesn't anyone sell these parts? I went to U-Do-it. they had some atlas parts, but not the ones I am looking for. Anyone else have this problem? ...

Thanks- That's actually doable, though it's about 40 minutes each way... I admit I was hoping for mail order, but I appreciate the information.

Mic stand Parts?

This is as prosaic as it gets, but I'm trying to fix a bunch of broken mic stands, and I can't find any parts. in particular, I have a number of regular small AKG style boom stands that are missing one of two boom clutch parts. One is the part of the boom that screws onto the base, and through which...

I think LRC can be very useful for TRACKING. It helps focus on mix questions as you go. A typical if not very original/brilliant example: A two guitar bass drum vocal band with the guitars on each side, and the bass and vocal up the center. Now you go to put on a keyboard track. The temptation is to...

through the wall

keeping the head in the CR is great. The dual di thing works well too, but as people have said, they have to be pretty good. But for sensitive guitar set-ups- say a fender mustang into a simple amp, straight in is best. I got tired of slamming all my mic cables in the door, so I built "mouse holes" ...

oblique strategies

I was wondering if Oblique Strategies would come up. I'm not sure whether "cliff notes" means you like them or not. I love them, but almost never use them, because they're really best on a long project where creative ruts are the enemy. But on a quick project, it can be a time waster for sure. The n...

I recently blew a gig because I talked to the band after a show. It was my fault, I was feeling nervous and started to talk about songs in a way that was too specific, and wigged them out. In general, my rule is to say hi, and let them know i came out and saw them, but avoid getting into specifics, ...

Wow

Yeah- I'm on the side of the plugged toilets come with the territory. As for Roughs- if you're talking about band financed projects you really can't let them get that far into debt. It's asking for trouble. A friend of mine told me when I first got into business: "There is no end to the ways in whic...
