I have been using the original Symetrix 528 for years as a vocal preamp. Love it. Great channel strip, IMO. No experience with the Presonus, sorry.

I am using the 525 on the parallel drum bus right now, kickin butt. The 525 is not a weird compressor, IMO. Easy operation, big sound. Symetrix made good stuff. I like the 525 on toms, too.
