What is your budget? If your budget is low, the FMR RNC's are a good starter compression box that do a fairly good job at evening things out. It has a mode call Really Nice Mode (I think) and that eliminates some of the variables, sounds fairly good, and makes it a good option for beginners. If you ...

1:1 (600ohm to 600ohm) would probably serve you well in this case. If you want some color, get something with a steel core. Or check out some frequency response charts for the trannys and find something that's not necessarily ruler-flat. New Cinemag CMOB-2S trannys are about $30 each. Sorry, sick m...

chances are very small. I love how the Times and Obama are attacking poor Joe the plumber. Here's Obama walking down Joe's f'n street taking questions from average citizens. Joe happens to be out in his front yard playing football with his kid when Obama comes up to Joe. Joe asks Obama a tough ques...

I've had some nice, expensive VCR's in years past, and I never heard one that sounded great. They tend to do bad things to the sound with regard to leveling.

If they were cool and you want to work with them again, let it slide. If not, speak up. Of course, you can't really speak up if you've already accepted their payment and handed over their materials. Chris Garges Charlotte, NC I approve of this message. That said, I think you need to judge it in bro...

I've had numerous experiences like that. What can you do? I generally leave if they're an hour late.

Can we hear the project?! :P I had to try.

For projects that take over a month I usually have the band in for some beer and a few playbacks lounging out on the couch. For projects shorter than that I usually do nothing. Sometimes we'll head out to a local bar for a drink or something to unwind, but that's usually about it.

Yeah those usually go for about $200 a piece, so you made out good, and those are great drum/bass compressors. So congrats. If you have second thoughts, I'll pay you $200 for them, or $100 for one.

I think you'll get more of a response in the buy sell thread. I've seen 499 and other analog tape for sale there from time to time. I haven't bought tape in years, so I couldn't tell you what it's worth, but there may be someone in the buy sell area who's sold some recently who can help you out.

I wonder if he files down the edges of the quarters. I've tried using quarters before when I didn't have a pick, and the edges tend to grab the strings and break them pretty frequently. I would think that'd be bad for live performances.

You can even mod the EQ to make the mids more usable. Plus if you make the 10k shelf a 12k shelf using nice film caps it sounds really really good. It's actually quite easy to mod the EQ's on these things too. If you can desolder four capacitors and solder in four new ones you can mod the three mid ...
