limiter plugin pre-processing question

hi - i've been reading up lately on some mastering limiter plugins. it seems like some of these (i've been looking at the sonnox oxford limiter and the psp xenon), have pre-processing stages with adjustable attack and release, and then a second stage to catch any peaks that may pass through the pre-...

Stomp Box Electricity Problem (grounding?)

i've got an acoustic guitar running direct into my DAW, and i'm getting annoying signal interference. it sounds like a grounding problem, though i think the place is grounded. here's my signal flow acoustic->lr baggs di/eq -> boss tuner -> eh holy grail reverb -> avalon pre -> m-audio profire 2626 t...

Synced Tremelo

Anybody know how to put tremelo on stuff and have it synced to a temp? so that the trem goes in an out say to 32nd notes along with a set tempo? i imagine software is involved somehow. there specific plugins that sync to the BPM in a digital performer session? i've heard this a lot on records recent...

Recording Electric Guitar - Eliminating Feedback

would you guys help me out with a track i'm working on? i've got an eletric guitar that i'm micing up close with a SM57, and about 4 feet away with a LDC. I've got it pretty drowned in reverb, thanks to my wonderful Electro Harmonix Holy Grail pedal. Problem is, it's getting some pretty dominating f...

i guess i dont understand the impedance stuff. why do i not need a reamp for this? isn't it the same physics (taking balanced signal, converting to non-balanced)??? wont i get static with this thing? dont understand how impedance comes into play, much less really understand impedance (always thought...

Music Theory Book

anybody care to recommend a good book on music theory for an experienced musician that doesn't know a ton about theory? i know a bit, basic chords, reading music (with effort), and rythm and such, but i'd like to know more, harmonies, scales, pitch, advanced chord structures (deminished? 7th's? 5th'...

What about this... I've seen bands send their vocals through stomp boxes, what is needed to do this? Do I need to buy a reamp, or can i just get a XLR->1/4" (unbalanced) converter, and then on the way out send it through a direct box? I'd also want to send it to a guitar amp (may be micing/putting e...

yeah, they're 1/4"s. so it is true that you only use speaker cables in amp->speaker situation?

speaker vs microphone cables

so, for instance, if my monitors are self-powered, i shouldnt be using speaker cables at all right? i've got an motu ultralite mk3, going into a presonus hp4, then to some event powered monitors. should i be using balanced 'microphone/audio/line' cables at both stages? motu-> hp4, and hp4->monitors?...

yeah a hobby, though i'm making decent tunes. i dont know how you full-timers out there can afford to spend $200 on something like a reamp. isn't it impossible to make money in a studio these days?

Reamp

$200, seriously? Is there not a cheaper way to do this? I don't need the reamp equivalent of a monster cable. I'm not gonna pay 200 bucks for something that doesnt even actually make sound.
