Sorry, I sold my M-56-8 a few years back. Awesome machine. These days I get the job done with an Otari 1/2" 8-track. You might want to check with Chris Mara about an MCI and with Matt Allen about a 3M. M-79s are excellent, too.

You might want to check with the folks at GRS Pro Audio. They're about a 4 hour drive away from you and they refurb and sell M-79 machines.

It seems to me it's just widely accepted that mastering is going to dampen the excitement of, and blur the edges of, an otherwise fantastic mix.
