whenever i hear "Crazy Train" by Ozzy on the radio, i think it sounds awful. Not sure why, maybe for the vocals. Super harsh. Maybe its the guitar sound, not so much that its bad by itself (though it is a little cheesy) but it so huge and saturated that you have to EQ the hell out of everything else...

14 years ago I got tired of the 5 band hustle and opened my own bar. We have just one band playing just one set. We have music but not super loud stuff. We have quite a few rules. We have house gear that everyone uses. We did some sound proofing and room tuning right away after we opened. We have g...

dude, trust me, its not the mixing in the box thats the problem, its the preamps / converters that prevent you from getting detailed mixes that have depth and detail. because even though you might not realize it, there is this subtle fog or haze on the hi end and low end of every track that goes in....

Re: warehouse noise

also you could incorporate the construction noise into your project. Like, arty out of time percussion overdubs. the kids around here love that stuff! Just saying....

Re: warehouse noise

Thank goodness! FINALLY there is a maverick developer out there willing to satisfy our demand for over priced luxury condos. but seriously, have you thought about installing a window inside your current window? It definitely would involve some carpentry, but nothing insanely complicated. As someone ...

Lee Scratch Perry's Black Ark productions in general. Not that he messed up -- he successfully made a recording aesthetic out of this blurry bounce-down-from-a-quarter-inch-four-track sound. I just wish I could have a little high end sometimes to hear all that good singing and pickin. But he made i...

Good place for Tascam 38 repair in New York ?

I have a Tascam 38 8 track reel to reel analog recorder in need of repair. Does anybody have any recommendations for local repair? I am in Williamsburg, and I went to Main Drag first but they said their pro audio specialist is out of town indefinitely. The only other repair place that i am consideri...

If / when the neighbours start complaining about noise or whatnot, living illegally in the space gives the landlord a very convenient excuse to terminate the lease.[/quote] this is a great point - if you are going to do it, you have to take great pains not to alienate any of the people who might wan...

Last weekend i was in the prospect park barbeque pit playing frisbee when an errant toss hit one of the locals in the head. I rushed over to apologize, but he wasn't having it. In a fit of rage, he reached into the grill and grabbed a burning coal. Closing his fist around it, steam whistling out as ...

Funny, I have listened to the Queen is Dead at least once a week for 12 years straight and i still love every single miserable second of it.

..but I've been hearing about this whole "laid" thing...what's it like, anyway?

Fixed!

Well i called neumann and had an engineer on the phone within 5 minutes who patiently addressed all of my concerns. We concluded that I could do the repair myself, he explained what to do, and he sent me out the $10 part right away. I just did the repair and its working fine. Big thanks to the other...

Opinions are all over the map on the new shins record. And indeed it is uneven. But I'll say this, the first time i heard Australia i almost shat myself with euphoria. That is indie pop music at its most joyous. James Mercer can write musical circles around any songwriter out there today. At first i...

I dropped my Neumann! Repair advice?

So i dropped my Neumann TLM 103 and something broke inside. It is a small black plastic piece that suspends the circular bit (diaphram?) - now the diaphram is basically bouncing around inside the capsule. Any ideas about: 1/ where to order a replacement part 2/ if i should attempt the repair myself ...
