I daydream about being super villain rich and having a studio with different forgotten consoles. Like a depraved menagerie. The Daking could be a sidecar with that Vintec c3 all tube job. http://www.shangrilamalibu.com/ They have a bunch on rolling frames. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XetG_YqjT...

The thin black ADAT sound was caused by the use of a 1 uf input blocking cap. There is no depth. I changed that to 47 uf on mine and the low end was thunderous. The live jazz tracks I recorded back then still sound excellent after transfers. Yep. I had modded 4 of those at an old studio with this e...

The rule is if I record the hi-hat I won't need it. If I don't record it I'll wish I did. Regardless of mic. But I can never say that I've been happy with any recording I've done of hi-hats. No matter which mic I've used.

I think it's a different side of the brain used for playing that part again as there is for coming up with that part in the first place This of course is heavily dependent on the style of music, the type of musicians involved, etc. etc. but some things just can't be recreated when the musicians are...

There needs to be a Rants and Rambles forum, where people can get this stuff out of their system, and give the rest of us a laugh. I mean almost everyone has at least one story  That's actually not a bad idea. Or at least a thread in the "People Skills" forum. As an aside. I try to keep as...

For the record, I haven't encountered this. But most of the time when I view the board I'm not signed in and usually don't worry bother unless I want to post something.

I looked at the link out of curiosity but not as a live engineer. I have to say it seemed like most questions were an all or nothing choice. Especially when it came to the live sound situation. Do we talk to people we know? Yes. Strangers? No. Except, people we're working with? Yes. I talk with frie...

Also, it can't hurt to dig into their instagram. They do post studio pics, such as... https://www.instagram.com/p/lXqI_lBV3X/ Though I believe that's from their latest sessions. I've been too lazy to dig down further. I'm a big fan of 160s as overheads. And not so much a fan of overheads. I pretty m...

Pardon my ignorance, but what's in the right side of the rack beneath the APIs and above the EQ?

My gut reaction is that it sounds like samples on the kick and snare. Either blended or total replacement. It'd kind of explain why the toms don't really stand out in relation. There is this article which might give some insights on how he works. https://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may08/articles/tonyh...
