I've been really liking the heil pr28. Really great rejection of outside sounds. Nice and balanced. So far no complaints. I sold my 604's, and I even ditch the 421s a lot when I hear the difference in bleed.

For the cheap dirty stuff, I usually use a psp vintage warmer into ozone. (don't really like the multiband compressor in ozone). Sometimes I'll high pass the mix at 45hz before the VW then eq for real, limit and dither in ozone. I've found the best way to get good results is gentle settings. If I ha...

Spaces on north side chicago?

I'm just trying to get started out here after moving out to Lincoln park area. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's a tough deal to get started without much start up money, but if you have any ideas, I'd be happy to hear them. Love the area!

I understand your pain on drawn out projects. I have never had a good project come out of anything over a month or two. It's just too scattered, musicians get better (as mentioned before) and it's very hard to get a focused record. The songs I end up going back and listening to later are almost alwa...

Reaper was honestly my plan. I did a project in it, and it's just a little too buggy for high pressure situations yet. I really do like how it works though. I was starting to feel a connection.. :-)

WTB: sm7, api lunchbox, cubase studio 4, good studio snake

All of those things and a bunch of trs and xlr neutriks connectors, 250' of good mic cable, and a soft side mic case with maybe 12-15 spaces. :-). Gotta get ready for my move to Chicago! If you have any of this stuff and would like to help out, let me know. Thanks much!

Re: where to buy software?

are you going to be using both copies at the same time? if so, that kind of makes the fact that you've paid for it once a moot point. if you need two copies of it, it shouldn't be any different than buying another mic to complete a stereo pair. Just because you paid for one before, doesn't mean tha...

where to buy software?

Does anyone have favorite tactics for getting good deals on legit software (beside academic discount)? I'm needing to get a second copy of cubase studio 4 for a second computer and I'd really like to avoid paying full price for something I've already paid full price for once. If anyone has advice, I...

I've had the 602 for a year or so now. I'm getting together enough gear to open two studios, and the 602 was the first mic I bought for the second one as well. I've had so many compliments on kick drum sound and it tears the crap out of the d112 that I was using before.

I have one. I actually really like it as a good solid preamp with a very usable compressor. I can't say I like the eq or the saturation knob. Every other function is pretty decent. The compressor was actually my biggest suprise. you can do a lot with it. It's pretty quiet as well.

I love reaper except it nearly exploded on the biggest project I've ever done. After 16 or so tracks it just started cutting out random parts of audio when rendering or consolidating. I was sweating unprecedented amounts of blood untill I managed to export each file and reimport them into cubase to ...

Is quad core worth it?

I'm looking at a new computer for a second rig and I want to get something that won't go out of date immediately, but I realize the disposable nature of computers anymore... That being said. 1. Is it worth it to spend the extra bucks on an intel quad core (the q6600) as opposed to a respectable inte...
