Thanks Nick for purchasing it, and thanks everyone for listening. Muchos Gracias. OK, so as far as the recording goes... Originally - the plan was to cut the whole album to tape. I had bought Fostex G16S (16 track on 1/2") and a Soundcraft 400b 24 channel machine. We had spent most of December of la...

thanks! we actually did a horrible job documenting the process with photos - here's a video of pre-production rehearsals that will give you an idea of what the rehearsal space / tracking room looks like. unfortunately there's really no shots of the "control room" http://vimeo.com/8521737 the place w...

thanks!

if anyone's curious about anything signal chain wise etc... please ask! i know that the record isn't doing any "ground breaking" sonics, but i hate to just take take take from the board and never contribute ha.

New indie-pop album stream (RIYL: Ambulance LTD, Zombies...)

Hey everyone, My band's new album is out today - streaming at our bandcamp page. I engineered and mixed the record myself, in a space we "built" from scratch. It was mastered by TW Walsh (David Bazan, Sufjan Stevens, Ra Ra Riot etc...). It's modern / melancholy indie-pop stuff. If you like full-band...

i have a fostex g16s that i might be willing to part with. i will say that it has been a bit temperamental and i suspect that some of the channels may need to be recapped. that said the transport seems to be working reliably.

where are you located?

i wonder about the backup vocal thing too. i'm guessing that back up vocalists around one mic had more to do with track count that going for a "sound" in the 60s. might be wrong though.

i have a pair of the sr77s, great mics - but perhaps not for the reason i bought them? i had intended to use them as drum overheads, but seemingly no matter what placement i try (glyn johns, xy, spaced pair) i really get quite a bit of high end from the cymbals. on less aggressive material they soun...

monitor upgrade from krk rockit 5

well i've got gear frenzy again and am thinking that my monitoring needs to be upgraded or perhaps "aided" by another set of monitors... what would be the best step up from the krk rockit 5 (first generation) ? i always feel like these are lacking in low end articulation, and thusly i cut a lot of l...

modern records mixed in mono? mono vs narrow stereo?

i'm curious if anyone can suggest some modern records that were done in mono. i'm currently weighing out the pros / cons of producing my bands record in mono, but have really only one "modern" reference (starflyer 59 - leave here a stranger). i'm also curious if creating a very "narrow" stereo recor...

microphone overload - what to do? suggestions please...

i have a rather interesting problem. i've acquired (or have at least access to) quite a bit of gear in the last year - but have not had any time to "get to know" it. woe is me - i know. what do you normally do to put gear through it's paces and figure out what you like it on? i'm getting ready to (f...

Console debate - Soundcraft 400b vs Yamaha PM1000

Currently, the only preamps I have at my disposal are the ones within my Soundcraft 400b. I've heard great things about the Yamaha PM1000 and may be able to get my hands on one on the cheap. Is the PM1000 a much better board than the 400b, or more of a lateral move? My soundcraft seems a bit noisy (...
