Question: What is actually the difference between black and death metal? Can an educated fan tell the difference upon hearing just 1 or 2 bars? Just curious. I am not trying to start something here, I just want to know what is the deal. Yeah, they are almost nothing alike. Black metal is very "prim...

Death metal / black metal

As a long time listener of both genres, I might take exception to the way the article was written in the current tape op. I kind of stopped listening to Death Metal precisely because it is all nowadays recorded as described: everything up front, "in your face," fixed kicks, triggers galore, etc. Per...

I've been listening to 192kbps mp3s on an ipod (using stock apple earplugs no less) for a few months now and I can report back that in my opinion, the overall experience is less than good. My ears get tired really fast and there is a slight grating quality to the sound. It is not a pleasing audio de...

Good call. (was mentioned before as well) I'm looking at the Presonus Faderport. Cheap!

I think it's worth it, if you know (of) a local guy who might understand your vision. He doesn't have to be famous or a "name" or expensive, but if he's got an ear for your style, it can really help. Recording yourself is hard. It is great to have someone else deal with buttons/knobs and help you sh...

To my understanding, the built-in talkback mic goes to the Headphones 1 and 2 outs only. (Not to either monitor out) The DAC has gotten really good reviews. The analog summing is the same as what is used in the 2-BUS, just with fewer input channels. If you email Dangerous they will respond to you qu...

Route all the tracks you want to a stereo Aux. Set the output of that Aux as 1-2. Now, open a send on that Aux and route the same output to 3-4, or whichever pair on the interface you desire. You now have a mix buss sending the same audio to two stereo pairs on the interface.

DAWs rule for a bloke like me who doesn't have/make a lot of money and just wants to have fun recording.

My system is working surprisingly well. (knock on wood) I just needed to vent. I know we are spoiled in this modern age. The pros definitely outweigh any cons.

Try Eno's oblique strategies. You need to let yourself create without being judgmental. Just write 200 songs. Who cares if they're "good" or "bad" or what you think you want to hear. Just write one, then another, then another. Save them and move on. You can review them later. This will get your body...

Do you have a vocal warm-up routine? If not you need one. I got through a gig once in the middle of a raging flu/fever that way. And I had a large thermos full of throat coat.

You're all set dude. What you do is, in Pro Tools you set the 003 as the master clock (set it to "Internal") and then you run word clock out of the 003 via BNC cable into the FS. The FS will sync to the 003's clock. Done.

Actually, no.

You would set the Digi as master clock, and send word clock to the FS via BNC since both units have it. Pretty sure there is a diagram at Presonus for this very setup.

The 003 gives you 8 analog ins. You can feed any external pre into these. 1-4 have built-in pres of their own and accept XLR or TRS. 5-8 are just line level, TRS only. You can send the output of the Digimax FS directly into the ADAT ins of the 003, giving you 8 more ins at 44.1 or 48 kHz sample rate...
