always keep an eye on your amps to watch for clipping, especially the monitor amps. Horns can go very easily, and that makes club owners mad.

two mics with the diaphragms lined up side by side (take the wind screen off the sm7 so you can properly see the diaphragm). either mic on its own may sounds terrible, but together it's magic.

Hi

I think we have met at show somewhere (Casbah), when Ryan introduced us. I'm moving to Toronto soon-ish, as soon as I find a place to live.

I still have yet to see Sleeptown. How are things there?

but you can then give some subtle boosts to one side and cuts to the other, usually no more than +/-3dB up or down. Maybe a shelf above 8-12k up on one side and down on the other, then reverse sides and bump/dip maybe 1k or 2k through about 6-8k, and so on. Cool. This works far better then my defau...

Faking Stereo with a live mono recording. Both mic and board

Hi all So I have a live recording I'm working on that consists of a mono mic recording and a mono board recording. They are on their own respective tracks. I'm going to try a few tricks in PT, but how would you guy's approach this mix... try and fake a stereo recording or just focus on a good mono m...

you may never see this again...

I was introduced to these videos a few months ago. I've been sharing these videos with friends and we've been laughing our asses off. Now the videos are all being pulled down by the artists. http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2008/02/parody-videos-s.html This was the last address I could find them at?....

An A/B test is pointless...ABX is what really matters

I've been thinking about this ever since the posts regarding various mp3 sample rates. I don't doubt that well respected and experienced engineers hear a difference between various products, but without a proper double blind test (ABX) we could all be wasting our money. The deeper I look into this t...

If you love the sound of CD in your CD player, listen to your CD's. I still love listening to CD's, and records. I didnt burn all my vinyl when I got a nice cassette deck and started making mixes for in the car, and I certainly dont need to burn all my CD's now that i have an ipod. I dont really gi...

Just food for thought. "Space" is getting cheaper every year. I ripped my entire CD collection (over 700) all to 16-44.1 AIFF. Why? So I don't want to re-rip it in 3 years. I'm using about 400 gigs on a 500 gig drive. It's backed up on another drive, and I'm about to back up to a 3rd. Am I crazy? M...

Why are the tests always such low bit rates? Anyone have a double blind test featuring a 16/44.1 wav mixed in with 192kbps or higher?

b) MP3 encoder makes all the difference. I'd rather listen to something encoded with LAME and the developer presets for standard VBR or even 112k than a 320k CBR xing, or iTunes, or blade encoded MP3. Those always test as the three worst encoders. I notice a lot of the people in the MP3 hating crow...
