i think the original complaint wasn't "auto-tune is cheating" it was more against the way it is seemingly routinely abused in the service of propping up lazy people (both behind the mic and behind the glass). but the stuff cited above are great examples of why it can be a great tool instead of a cr...

I head the tunes on your myspace page. I hear what you mean. Especially in the snare, and especially on the first two songs posted ("A Bird A Sparrow" and "Coffey") Your live room looks very nice. After hearing the the music you have posted, I'm not sure that the live room is the biggest issue. Tak...

Be careful with carpet, carpet only tames the good stuff. You end up with all the bass issues still out there. Mostly you end up with a muddy sounding room. Imagine a room with lots of lows and average mids. Now suck out the mids, guess what, the lows are now worse because their ratio to the mids i...

problems with our drum room
The new studio i'm working at is a great studio, we're just having a lot of problems with the acoustics of the drum room. i don't really know the dimensions of the room but i do have some pictures on a myspace that i'll link. We tend it get kind of a buckety hollow sound when we do drums. When i fir...

Can you see that visually in the waveform if you apply the compression? Or does it look even? To me it sounds more like your room has a low frequency peak due to standing waves, which is pretty common unless you've spent a bunch of time putting in treatment. For the most part, a standard compressor...

For bass, my favorite plugin has always been Blockfish. It's free (go to http://www.digitalfishphones.com ), easy to use, and cool sounding. However, I'm not quite clear on what your issue is.. you're saying that you need a ratio of more than 8:1? Have you tried playing with other parameters, like ...

Re: Audiowarp in Cubase SX 3
hi. anyone tried audiowarping multiple tracks at once? I love this feature...but if the drums are a bit off and need nudging - how can you select all the tracks (kick, snare, oh, etc...) and utilize the audio warp tool? thanks! I was kind of wondering the same thing. I use cubase studio 4 and it ha...

need a good plug in compressor for bass
Hey guys, i need to get a good compressor for my vst plug ins that i can compress really hard. i have some good compressors like the sonitus but you can only get to a ratio of about 8:1 and sometimes for bass i need a REALLY hard compress so i don't get those peaks. Does anyone know of any one? I'd ...

Hey guys, i'm looking to expand my work and start learning more about engineering. i've only recorded in my room with my equipment and i feel like i'm kind of halted considering i don't have great gear or room(even though i've learned to get pretty good sounds in it). But i feel like i'm sticking to...

I got a plug in that you can add to a snare... and it can pretty much make the weakest of snares sounds super phat, punchy, and have a good attack. you can also use it on bass to beef it up and get it hard hitting. or for vocals to get an AWESOME distorted sound. http://www.camelaudio.com/camelcrush...

I do what they hire me to do. If that includes tightening up their performance, then I do it. I don't feel guilty about it. It's not my responsibility to make them better performers. I will offer advice. And, I will suggest retracking. But, if they'd rather sit and pay to watch me edit, I'm cool wi...

Shoot the producer for letting such poorly played dreck get recorded. My question is, does the drummer know the difference? This type of drummer gets fired on real sessions. that's true, and usually the drummers don't know the difference. But i like to listen to the bands i recorded while doing oth...

As many of you guys know, stray kick notes are annoying as HELL. And sometimes you just have to record a project where the drummer is, well, bad. I'm tired of individually editing the stray kick hits that are off or slightly off, and the same thing goes with things like the snare. But it's pretty mu...

One of my Western Digital drives requires you to hook it up via USB first for hardware and driver installation, and then you can run it via Firewire. I'll try that. i'm PRETTY sure my firewire works just fine since i've never had a problem with my firepod being read. i have the harddrive up and run...
