My summer project is rebuild my craptastic pedal board. I've been warned by a friend about long cable runs. I'm NOT a "tone connoisseur" but I'd like to do this right. Question: When figuring how long your "run" is, would you just count each piece of cable or all the cable combined? For ex., I have ...

FS: Frontier Tranzport

CHICAGO - Working, barely-used Frontier Tranzport from smoke-free home studio. It works great and is an impressive little piece of kit; I just never use it. $150 for the Tranzport ($200 new) and mic stand adapter ($20 new), OBO. I'm hoping for a local deal but if someone's willing to PayPal and cove...

Headphone distribution

I've been working on my own, first with a Digi001 and now with a Traveler for a few years now and just ran into something new: A friend came over and wanted a set of headphones for playback. My traveler only has one headphone out. We got through it, but I realized that I had no idea what to do when ...

Check the wiring - could they potentially be out of phase? This is easy to happen with passive speakers because of the positive and negative wiring. Not sure if those monitors are active or passive though. I'm going straight out of the Traveler into TRS 1/4" cables, into the monitors. Is it possibl...

And after some thought, I think what's troubling me most is that I can be this far off the mark and my equipment is telling me "Sounds good, Chief!"

That's awful scary.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Re: Yamaha HS80m Monitors - Where's my low end?!?!

I'm guessing you've never spent any time with the industry standard NS10s? Nein. These monitors are all about midrange clarity. They do have plenty of bottom, you're likely focusing on the wrong frequencies. So how do you guys sort out the low end if a speaker doesn?t produce any? Different monitor...

fossiltooth wrote:Yes. They are bright and strident sounding speakers.

If you want your mixes to sound good, they should sound bright and strident on those particular speakers.

That's how mixing works. Kind of annoying, right?
This is daunting.

This reassuring. THanks :)

Nope, flipping those switches does nothing remarkable unless I have my ear against the speaker (literally).

The high and mid cuts are on, but again, hardly making a difference.

Room control is flat.

Ensomberoom's too far away (4 hours), but I like that Leviathan track you have up there. Great vocalist!

Beyond Sanity looks great, but you don't have an address on your site that I can use for trip calculations...

METAL-FRIENDLY CLEVELAND STUDIO for DRUMS for CHEAP?

Does anyone know of an affordable METAL-FRIENDLY* studio** in the Cleveland area that we could send a guy for a couple hours to bang on some drums? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a trashy death metal project going with a buddy of mine in Georgia a...

Also, and this is totally a personal thing?.I?m looking at a computer screen all day at work and much of the time when I?m at home. IRecording on analog will make you a better musician and songwriter. Recording on a daw will make you a better editor and programmer. You get to decide which you want to be. I am loving spending my time writing good parts and doing good takes instead of trying to edit together a scrambled performan...

But what do you do when you have a final mix? Is there a 2nd stereo tape deck in the mix? Yeah, the main-outs feed a stereo mix. In my case to a firebox. The monitor outs go to my monitors. But once again, in my case first to my power amp. What would they do back in the day? Surely they didn't boun...
