Good luck with the back surgery. I had it 10 years ago, and had a splendid recovery! Make sure that you don't reinjure yourself after the surgery, it happens way too often. I hired a personal trainer after my surgery to rebuild me, and still use him. I can carry 4x12 cabinets, big amps, split wood.....

I'll be spinning 2" reels on my recently acquired MCI JH24 any day now, as soon as I can get Eddie Ciletti over to administer the post-shipping physical. Haven't made any decisions on speed, tape, or level yet. Back in the 70"s I always tracked and mixed at 15IPS on Scotch 250. Much soldering needed...

Other projects that depressed me.....
A decade or three ago I was working with an engineer named David Rivkin. One day he played me a demo he was working on, "Soft and Wet" by the then unsigned artist named Prince. Ouch. Another day he played me different song he was working on, "Funky Town", by Lipps Inc. Major depression! Try and imag...

Debt, struggle, distributors that don't pay, etc. it's not like anyone's getting rich off specialty mic stands for studios! In my very wildest of dreams I would break even on this escapade before I drop..... And Mr J. (Kahrs), thanks for the kind words. I forgot your sheetrock lift story which you ...

Carol Kaye used a Fender Super Reverb. Motown was indeed a B15N Portaflex, maybe with a homebrew passive DI. Don'm forget Aguilar when you're talkin' tube DIs. Their stuff is MADE for bass. I luuuuv my '61 Ampeg B15N and '69 SVT. I want an Ampeg bass preamp. If it's good enough for Doug Pinnick in K...

Sorry to get all defensive but....
fremitus, We have a saying in industry: "Better, Faster, Cheaper, pick two". It should be pretty obvious which two we picked, better and faster. The micKing takes up 1/3 the space of a Starbird, goes taller, weighs less, and holds as much weight. (And it actually costs less than Starbird.) Compariso...

Super Duper TapeOpCon Latch Lake Mic Stand Blowout
Don't worry forum police, this is posted with advance permission from Craig. Latch Lake is blowing out 4 micKing stands, and a bunch of Xtra Booms at TapeOpCon. These stands and booms are the ones that were used in the PotLuck Studio at TapeOpCon 2005. Talk about low miles, only 3 days use. They've ...

slide noise musings....
Back in the day when I was employed by Leo Kottke I was told not to lose the sound of the slide itself, which Leo referrded to as the "gliss" of the slide. Now obviously it's possible to have too much gliss, but that hasn't happened to me so far. Does the noisy player do any damping behind the slide...
