Strange Noise - Tape & Digital
Hello All, I'm experiencing a noise signal ( about 4912Khz @ maybe -20,-30ishdb.) when I connect more than one channel of my Neotek console to my converter (SSL Alphalinx). For example, if I use two channels of the Neotek to record with, then I get this noise. If I take my 2 track tape mix and throw...

Screw Driver For 10Turn/20Turn Pots
Hello All,
Once upon a time I saw a flathead screw driver which had a "collar" so when tweaking PCB mounted pots, it wouldn't slip. Has anyone come across one of these?
I am using my MCI JH24 a lot now and would like to try and find a couple of these drivers for calibrating.
Thanks!
Tom

Hi, Just curious if you ever resolved these issues? I am familiar with the Sony. It's a good machine and it sounds like this problem could be fixed (possibly) with little to no cost. I would however, invest in a set of belts ($18) and a motor-run cap ($14) if you get it going and do use it quite a b...

Hi Peterson, good to hear from ya! Panning would be very nice. However, maybe not crucial. I was looking at the summing box you have on your site as a matter of fact. Sorry if my post is a little confusing. What I need is 8 channels which will accept tracks 17 through 24 of my MCI JH24. This needs t...

Many many good points. Just an update of the gentleman I was originally inspired by to start this thread... I saw on his FB page he's now offering "Professional Mixing and Producing" amoung his services. I wonder how that works in a dorm room with hacked software. He also doesn't grasp the differenc...

I just wanted to add a little something to this topic: The studio with which I am affiliated with recently took on three students via The Recording Connection. The course work looks about the same but the price has gone way up. (But I went through it a long time ago.) If the instructor is good, I th...

DIY Line Amp
Hi All, I am pondering building a small format mixer (really just a bunch of line amps which feed a buss) vs. buying one. I need an eight channel side mixer to compliment my 16 channel console. 1) I don't need eq 2) I like the idea of transformerless amplifiers - I have two UTC tranny's I would/coul...

Tom, are you saying you got a job because of the studio Recording Connection set you up with for your training? And the run-around was just for the certificate? Personally, I'd take the job over the certificate any day. Ultimately, yes. And that is just what I did too. However, I was and am a freel...

Curtis Mics
Hi, Several years ago my friend and I freelanced out of a studio which had the stereo set of Curtis tube condenser mics. We both loved them and used them quite a bit from drum overheads to piano, etc. It appears they are out of business? Just wondering if anyone else has or had used them...you don't...

I went through this program and never even got my certificate. Upon calling them I just got a huge run-around. I never pursued it any further because I started working at the studio I trained at and another one as a freelance engineer. I personally wouldn't recommend them...I think you can do better...
