how would the mk012's sound on toms using the different capsules? i've tried the cardioid ones real quick on some horrible, untuned toms and they really captured the shittyness (in a good way). should i invest in some hypers or omnis?

Getting a grasp on phase without tracking room?

I'm fairly confident in the idea of phase yet I have to experience it. Mainly because my only real option in phase is just setting a track "out of phase" in Reaper which does very little. Now I don't have a tracking room so I can't sit at my monitors while someone moves a mic around. Would isolation...

How to properly mic a guitar speaker?

I understand that the sound from a speaker comes from the outer cone and not the inside section. And I also get the idea that the more off-axis your mic is, the less high end you capture. Now... Does off-axis assume the mic isn't pointing directly at the speaker, but rather at a 30-60* say? Or does ...

It's not that the weight is killing me, which is probably pushing 60 or 70 pounds with its ata case, but I work in mostly makeshift venues. Two of them are art galleries and about a week ago I recorded a show in a mack truck garage  . So space is very limited in these places and I hate placin...

the only problem with the ada8000 is the XLR outputs on it. i have a TRS-TRS snake I would like to continue using. if i get pressed and really need to make a choice, that seems like the best one though. i don't need digital out, just a simple 4, 6, or 8 channel preamp. do i have to worry about the c...

Help me find a multi-preamp for live use

So I've branched out into live recording my friends bands. Mostly to accompany videos that other kids shoot so they can avoid the crappy mics that are found on most cameras. I run everything now from a Soundcraft M12 into a MOTU 828 and then track it all with Garageband. Now I only use the Soundcraf...

I have been amazed at how good the small, older tannoys are... like the PBM series, and also the smaller KRK's... I have been looking into getting some small KRK's for my apartment.. simple, powered, small... but quality... A pal of mine had a pair of those smaller KRK's in his studio as a "C" moni...

thanks for all the suggestions. i'm guessing there isn't really a stand out, all hailed pair of monitors in this price range and the few mentioned all seem great. those yamaha msp3's would be great because of there small size. however, the tapco's look cool. i think i will see what i can come...

Small, simple, cheap monitors.

I'm not looking for anything mind-blowing or extremely flat. I recently moved into a small apartment and need something to do real simple, fairly quick mixes on. The room is obviously small and untreated and I guess at this point anything is better than the bookshelf speakers I have been mixing on, ...

I'd be interested to hear how you find it so far So far it's a great tracking tool. It has no mixer yet like the PC version but everything recording-wise is there. Assuming I can put it through some tests and see how stable it is, I might use this on my laptop when I track live then just come home ...

I run everything out of a Soundcraft M12 board into a Motu 828mkII firewire.

I can't believe they are getting Reaper out to Mac so soon. I know on the site they say it won't be until Q4 2007 that the official version is out but this might be useable for now. Thank you very much sir.
