Splitting an ipod's stereo signal

So I recorded a stereo track, the left side being a synth part with the right only containing a click track. I then have a stereo to two mono 3.5mm adapter running out of the ipod while playing this track. The left side gets run into the PA in our bands practice spot and the right side has iso phone...

Don't be in a rush to change the Miking. Player, Instrument, Room Let the drummer listen to what he is playing. Then adjust his playing and do it again until it sounds right. This seems like pretty great advice actually. I will let him listen next time and hopefully he can adjust what needs adjusti...

Get a well priced pair of sdc's to throw up over the kit and something along the lines of a Sennheiser e602 or AKG D112 for the kick.

That shouldn't be impossible to accomplish with $400.

You couldnt be more dead on with the room and placement. It's an attic, all wood walls, and peaked ceiling. It's fairly dead and I have the mic about two feet off the cymbals, directly above the center of the kick. The drummer is a kid so for his age he is a skilled drummer, just doesn't have his fu...

Why do my cymbals come out so washy?

So I pretty much thought this was basically a problem that I had worked out, but slowly this sound has been creeping up on me with a recent project I have been working on. For awhile now I have been using a mono overhead (Oktava MK219 modded by Mr. Joly) into a Soundcraft M12 mixer. Ive set it up a ...

Try a pistol case, which can be found at any hunting gear store or just Walmart. They often come ready-to-cut so all you do is trim out some foam and set the mic in. This way you can also store it in the sitting upright position, which I would assume puts less stress on the ribbon. If not that, then...

I play my bass through my pro junior quite a bit. it actually sounds better than the peavey bass amp i have. as far as i can tell it puts no extra strain on the speaker, but then again i'm not too worried about it because its only some generic speaker in it.

sm57/58 for simple tom stuff?

right now a lot of the bands i am working with (including my own) don't rely on toms and i think i could better invest my money than on dedicated tom mics. for now, would it be worth it to use a 57 or a 58 on toms? would these mics even be able to decently represent the lows on a floor tom? or shoul...

I love mine. I have the small 25 key version and it sits on the pull-out keyboard tray of my desk all the time because I use it so much. As long as you download the config. software from M-Audio (I think they call it Enigma), then its a breeze to setup. I have one set of presets for every instrument...

thanks for this! gives me a nice comparison of my m12 pre's to other similiarly priced ones. i actually didn't like the m8 at all compared to the rest. the most dull sounding.

i thought the bla modded 828 and the vc3 were the best in this situation.

Ibanez TS9 mod

I have one of the newer TS9's and was thinking about getting it modded to TS808 specs. I doubt mine will ever sound like a vintage 808 but hey, if I can mine to sound a touch better than its worth it. Now, I can pay the handful of guys out there doing the mod or I can pickup one of the kits on eBay....

Which headphones under $100 have the best isolation? They will be used strictly for tracking.
