Re: I highly recommend REAPER

You and I have similar Pro Tools timelines, starting with the dig 001 back in 2001 or so and moving up to a TDM rig. I still have both my Digi 001 and TDM system with my Mac G4 10.3.9! None of that shit sells for anything so I'm just hanging onto as a backup/nostalgia. You never know when it will c...

Re: I highly recommend REAPER

I used Pro Tools for 15 years. I first had a Digi 001 on PT 6.4. I then upgraded to a TDM system with 3 24/888's that I bought off eBay for pretty cheap for Pro Tools prices 10 years ago. It was still PT 6.4 but it was TDM now. The zero latency monitoring was pretty cool, even with plugins; and tha...

Re: alesis wedge power supply problem?

Mine has the exact same problem. I was actually looking at getting a second/backup yesterday but remembered that there's way more important things to spend $100 on right now. There's one on Reverb that looks MINT if you're interested.

Re: Live Off the Floor in a Small Room

Build diary here - https://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=89354 Hey, thanks! Always inspiring to see builds here done by people who don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend on a build unlike those "other" websites. I paid a structural engineer to draw me up some plans so I coul...

Re: Live Off the Floor in a Small Room

Mine is similar but probably less sound proofed. It’s a big one car garage. Inside it’s a 12x20-something space. The building is cinderblock and I framed with 2x4. This is my second garage build, and after working hard to sound proof the first with limited success I made no heroic efforts this time...

Re: Live Off the Floor in a Small Room

Mine is 19x27 so not too much different in size. I have "superchunks" in all 4 corners and then other absorption in strategic places. The construction is an external brick veneer and 2x6 frame with 2 layers of sheetrock inside (overlapping seams, each caulked/sealed separately). I never thought I c...

Re: Zoom H6 preamps?

We use one in a rehearsal space we're temporarily renting until I can get the garage studio build-out started. Kick, Snare, mono OH, and Guitar into the Zoom's pres and stereo keys/synths into the 1/8" mini input on the X/Y mic head. This is in a 10x11x9 room with enough treatment to make it dead an...

Re: unhyped kick drum mic

Remember when there would always be a suggestion for an old CAD E100? That's what I still use, though I'm a live guy and pretty much only do jazz these days. Flat down to 10Hz, add your own damn scoop. Weirdly enough the original E100 mics are now selling for real money again on eBay. In my own mic...

Re: dark condensers on the cheap for high SPLs

The X1D is a killer tom mic. SE is insane for discontinuing them. I liked them so much, I bought eight of them. I use them for all kinds of stuff. Anyway, they're not as inexpensive, but the Audio Technica 4047 sounds a lot like the X1D on toms. Makes sense, since they're both kinda based on the FE...

Re: Live Off the Floor in a Small Room

Rad. In the process of designing/building a small studio in a 15x30 garage. Curious if you have any documentation of your build? I've been designing mine for over a year and keep changing things. I like how you kept your height and would like to do the same but I need as much iso as possible being u...

Re: No fancy tube mics - am I missing out?

Find a Groove Tubes MD1A. The more I use mine, the more I love it. $500. Rules. Totally. After wanting one of these for like 18 years, Recycled Brains tipped me off on one going for dirt cheap on Reverb. I'll normally just do all the vocals with a SM7b. But the last record that I tracked out of my ...

Re: Mics - GT MD1a, Sennheiser E602ii

Both mics are in excellent shape. I'm the original owner of the 602; it's in like new shape. I'm ATM25 for life. MD1a was purchased used, cleaned up, and used on many a guitar amp and FOK position since. Both are in great shape functionally and cosmetically and include the expected additional items...

Re: Amek BC2 BCII Buss Assignment Routing

You’ll have to put jumper wires in to replace the cut traces. You can carefully scrape off the solder mask(the green, typically) over the traces to expose the copper to solder to, or put wires from components along the trace( in the case from the switch pins to the next solderable point on the trac...
