Re: Hotel Earth studio 1 build diary

Awesome... *looks at my 400 sq foot garage that has been in the works for 5 years, then looks over to the living room where my "temporary" studio has taken up half of the living room for 5 years... I'm thinking of doing something similar with my two booths, when they are built. Just refreshing the a...

I also follow the peter katis rule that the outboard settings NEVER CHANGE - that's the only way I can handle recalls and jumping between projects.

want more saturation/compression? push more level into it,.
I like this idea.

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

And clip gain (not sure if you can lock it) is really nice for getting vocals into a dynamic range where they can play nice with a compressor or other effects. Or bring an over-excitable drum hit back down a bit for the same kinda reason, without doing a bunch of automation on multiple tracks and b...

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

It's nice. I use freeze pretty much how you described. Sometimes I find that certain plugins are cpu hogs and if I have that on a track, I will just "freeze" that track so that it's not consuming cpu cycles (from the plugins) so that my Aux busses can pig out themselves. Another thing is that now t...

I still keep expecting your first post to start out with "...but I play one on TV."
Ahh, so I'm not the only one.

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

OH! and CLip Gain!!! WOW!

I need to look into if there is a way to "lock" the clip gain so I'm not accidentally changing it when doing edits.

New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

I'm late to the party again! I was on PT 6 and then PT 9 for many years. Moved to PT 2023 a couple month ago and I just now got the memo of this "FREEZE" function. Interesting! I can see this being really helpful when needing to do a last minute overdub and you've already maxed you fucking session o...

Re: Mixing with Hardware - Hybrid

The Bax is pretty clean, yet bold sounding, if that makes sense. You can do a lot with it, Each band can be stereo, mid or side, so once a frequency is chosen, you can audition each option. I got the 1db gain switches and on the mix bus that's kind of a lot (they also offer .5db which might be bett...

 all y'all!

That pic reminds me of seeing Iron Maiden circa 1980.

Top o' th' page to ya's!
You saw Maiden in 1980??? Holy Shit! What size of venue? Where?
I'm embarrassed to say I've never seen Maiden or Priest. WTF is wrong with me? My wife has seen both a few times.

Re: Mixing with Hardware - Hybrid

When I downsized and got rid of my ghost, I bought a used D box. Honestly I wasn’t that impressed with it. It was a BIG jump going from the console to summing my 4 stereo busses etc so I may have been biased. But personally I didn’t get enough mojo out of it to justify not just going all the way in...

Re: Mixing with Hardware - Hybrid

I've mixed through a console for summing and using outboard gear in many variations as the DAW slowly overtook a tape machine. Late 90's it was always tape or ADATs, early 00's still tape but by 2004, seemed half of my records were still tape, and other half were tracked to tape and dumped into PT o...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I picked up those Amazon SDC shock mounts mentioned earlier for my Oktavas. Really nice for the price. I also got Kazrog's True Iron and True Dynamics. The 26W compressor is SOOO THICK sounding. Wow. They have a sale going on right now. I want to try their 242 and Synth warmer plugs but really tryi...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I saw that too! That's a good idea. I want something variable, but I might end up building one of these: https://www.diyrecordingequipment.com/collections/studio-essentials/products/l2p Very cheap and should do the trick. Although, I actually might have some inline attenuators here somewhere. I nee...
