Re: FS: Gibson LP Standard, Studio, LCD, CRTs, FS1R, Airport
(Seller here.) I'm not sure what version the Airport is; I wasn't aware there was more than one kind. This is an older card, originally came in a Cube, then I transplanted it to my TiBook/400 in its internal Airport slot (not its PCMCIA slot). It says copyright 1999 on it. There's a part number on t...

Re: String Arrangement alternatives
Why not find a string arranger and get some help? Some string arrangers (including myself) have and can do the arrangement with samples if there isn't the budget for a real string section.

Re: Find me a cheap sub...
I actually want the sub so I can start mixing in 5.1. Powered sub for sure. Now about the crossover: my DAW software offers bass management as a plug-in. So do I need to worry about things like this? The sub will be fed directly from the audio interface (and so will the other 5 speakers). So the sof...

Find me a cheap sub...
Looking to find a basic sub to add to my monitoring setup. My room is 20x20x12 although the desk and monitoring position is not up against the walls - so it's more like a 12x12x12 space that really needs the amplification - I'm not trying to amplify the entire room. Budget is low. Here's the Sweetwa...

Re: Convincing a band to master properly...
Tell the band that finishing their recording without mastering is a little like trying to sell a used car without washing, vacuuming, and taking all the dents out of it. Sure, it'll still get you from point A to point B, but it's going to attract a lot less interest. There are many budget mastering ...

I vote for Digital Performer. Much easier to use than logic.

Re: I hate all the reverb plugs or hardware I have ever hear
I'm amused, you don't like any reverb plug-ins but you like the Yamah SPX.
Try Altiverb, it really is quite amazing.

Re: Mastering Software - what do you use?
I would say the same, but I'm not quite pooh-poohing Waves that bad. I had Waves for a long time. Ridiculously expensive but really solid tools. Now I have UAD too, and I have to say, the UAD stuff is so solid that I'm starting to rely on it more, over the Waves. Waves is still very good. But UAD is...

Re: Mastering Software - what do you use?
PSP VintageWarmer is very nice but is a very "character" compressor -- warm, fat, tubey -- it definitely leaves its mark on any material you put through it. This is not always desirable, but the VW is a really nice tool to have in your arsenal.

Re: Mastering Software - what do you use?
So Ron McMaster does his mastering through a Neve board...does that mean mastering can ONLY be done through a Neve board? Come on, man, be open-minded enough to realize there's lots of ways to get the job done. Now if you say you *prefer* to master through a Neve board, sure, have your opinion, and ...

Re: Mastering Software - what do you use?
Be boggled. I know this is flame-bait here, but I find it ignorant if someone implies, "You can *only* use a certain type of gear to accomplish a certain task." Some of the plugs out there are phenomenal. (Not all of them, but some of them, and they're getting significantly better with each passing ...

Re: Wiring an el cheapo multimedia microphone
"Need to be powered"...as in phantom power? Or a different kind?
I have phantom, I just didn't want to hit that switch and potentially destroy the mic if that's not what it needed.

Re: Mastering Software - what do you use?
T-Racks is very coloring. Difficult to use subtly. I was at a mastering session yesterday with Bob Ohlsson. He was using Samplitude with Waves plugs. On the Mac side, I've heard really good things about the new version of DSP-Quattro, but haven't had a chance to really check it out yet. dsp-quattro....
