Why not find a string arranger and get some help? Some string arrangers (including myself) have and can do the arrangement with samples if there isn't the budget for a real string section.

PSP VintageWarmer is very nice but is a very "character" compressor -- warm, fat, tubey -- it definitely leaves its mark on any material you put through it. This is not always desirable, but the VW is a really nice tool to have in your arsenal.

T-Racks is very coloring. Difficult to use subtly. I was at a mastering session yesterday with Bob Ohlsson. He was using Samplitude with Waves plugs.
