Re: 500 series racks - how much power do I need?

The radial ones are great and have lots of power and some nice extra features like easy daisy chaining of adjacent channels.

Plus I used the D-sub in when mixing as well.

Re: Pre-Amps Rec's for Instruments and Mics?

Hard to know what you consider "reasonably priced" but for warm I love the UA solo 610 - a GREAT DI for bass, guitars, keys and a very rich and velvety pre for mics. I use this a lot on vocals too. Can be found used for $500 - $600 used. BTW power supply for Golden Age is cheap: https://www.bhphotov...

I'm not sure how to open up this mic without damaging something - it doesn't seem obvious like a 57 - no screws that I can see...

help troubleshoot a buzzzzz on Beyer M160

My beyer M160 was making a slight buzz - also when you touch the mic a ground hum happens - a much louder buzz. I thought maybe it was the mic pre but I swapped it and it was still there so i tried a cloudlifter and it just amplified the noise. I also swapped the xlr. Nothing helped. Tried I a diffe...

machine room...

hearing the faint hum of my computer and radar's fans and hardrives is slowly driving me insane. I don't know why I didn't factor in a machine room for this new studio when we built it 5 years ago but I gotta do something and no it's not gonna be enough to replace a few components in my tower... it'...

Re: Reverb for Drums (Analog Tascam 388)

I still get some good mileage out of an Alesia wedge. Can be had for under $100 and I think the sounds rival a lot of good plugins. Nice plate and room sounds.

A couple of these Crane Song 500 Series tube EQ's and some more Rupert Neve Inductors
how are the crane songs? I always wonder if 500 series tube gear gets a lot hotter?

Re: fader setup for 500 series preamps

I have a Radial six pack workhorse and it has a cool feature which allows you to cascade channels into the modules beside it with the flick of a switch so you can have a pre and to it's right an eq and then a compressor in the next one and run them as a channel strip by flicking a switch in the back...

Re: power conditioner/power bars

were you using any unbalanced TS or RCA cables? or an unbalanced patch bay? that's usually the culprit IMO. Get too close to the computer (which generates a lot of EMI) and it picks up noise. No - I don't have a patch bay and everything is hard wired with XLR or DB25. My computer is about 8 - 10 fe...

Re: power conditioner/power bars

I'm using a big ol 30lb isolation transformer and called an electrician to make sure the power is run properly from the mains
Could you send a link to something like what you are describing? Also where does the transformer get installed?

Don't they just use a battery when the power gets cut abruptly?
That was my assumption as well. The battery is the backup source no?
