Re: PC experts needed for upgrade quest
Just keep in mind that if you're running that PCI card through a bridge (which you almost certainly are), that's likely going to be your bottleneck, especially if you're running high sample rates. Their performance is way worse when running through the PCI-e bridge, that's according to Paul at Lynx...

Re: PC experts needed for upgrade quest
Glad you found a motherboard that will support your needs, but keep in mind that the motherboard is the biggest pain in the ass to replace because it means basically taking your entire computer apart. Intentionally going with an older chipset will mean you'll have to do that sooner, even if it's a ...

Valid points - a few bits of info: - my RME is a 9652 which basically is taking optical in and out of a RADAR V into my Pc (cubase). I'm not planning on replacing the radar anytime soon. - I am using a 64 bit OS and DAW currently - There is a Asus mobo that is currently made and has a PCI slot and w...

Re: PC experts needed for upgrade quest
[ sometimes that is true, but not always. I know people that have done both with different results... What is both? A pre fab comp vs build your own? Does anyone know of any good Dell or HP computers that are in this league that are good for audio recording? I'm open to ideas... I did assume it wou...

Re: PC experts needed for upgrade quest
Care to share what you built? (specs)
I honestly have never done this before so not really sure what MOBO or RAM is ideal - all I know is that I need a PCIe slot for RME audio card... I'll seek help to assemble but if I can source parts myself I'll save $$.

Re: Vocal panning approaches
i like to mix it up and see what can get away with and try to get out of always centering them (although i still do a lot)... lately i've been spreading doubled lead vocals halfway into the L and R or in a song with orchestrations panning the bgs opposite the strings in a more 60's kinda way. have f...

this is all good info and helpful. Thank you! A few followup questions: What processor/mobo would be a solid current choice? Looking at the 10th gen intel stuff on Amazon...how is something like this i9? : https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B086ML4XSD/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A19N3NI8X4F24J&psc=1 I ...

anybody using SSD drives for data/sessions?
I've been using a SSD for my main C drive (running OS and software) for a bunch of years now and am wondering if there's a noticeable improvement in performance on recording to them as well. Prices are still high but it might be worth it if the difference was really noticeable... (i'm trying to find...

PC experts needed for upgrade quest
I think I am due to get a newer computer this year and am starting to research models. I currently have an i7 3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz and am looking at a intel i7 6700k quad core. (I am running 64bit cubase 11) The main thing it must have is a mobo that will still support pcie for my RME soundcard which ...

Re: problem with ADAT port failed on RME card??
thanks - is there any way to check the condition of the PSU with some utility / tool / app ?
A friend suggested that the PSU won't turn on if there's a short somewhere in the chain and I wondered about that being an issue too....
