I’ve spent my entire working life in basements and windowless bunkers. I want to see daylight for my remaining years.

Re: outputting masters at different level for cd vs streaming

I get that the vinyl master would work well in this scenario but likely not the cd master (without some good explanation to the artists of why it's quieter than other albums in their collection)

this is what sparked this question:

outputting masters at different level for cd vs streaming

Just doing some reading about how streaming services reduce the level of overly loud music (Loudness Penalty) to make levels more consistent from song to song and it's making me wonder if I should start outputting 2 sets of masters: 1 for cd at the normal level I master at (loud but not crushed) and...

Multing Lead vocals

Been doing a lot of mixing lately and wondering if any of you do the michael brauer type mix thing where you run a vocal to a few different compressors and blend together for presence and tone. Not that you are necessarily slamming them (but maybe you are and just blend in a little of that channel w...

Re: Deconstructing this vocal sound

to me it really sounds more like EQ than distortion - all the lows are gone - a large HPF (200 or higher) - and no air either - LPF (5-6k or lower). a bit of edge in the tone could be from driving a pre or compressor a little harder but it also doesn't sound super squashed - just a bit saturated . I...

Re: How To: Replace an 8-Track R2R with a Laptop

It is a common practice to record audio onto a different drive than the one your daw and apps run off of. Could be internal in a tower like mine or external.

Re: Using my Analog Pres with my Computer

right. the adat input gives another 8 channels - provided he's recorded at 44 or 48k.

the external pres are routed to the HD24XR inputs (1-8) and then out the adat out (1) to the scarlett adat input.

Re: Using my Analog Pres with my Computer

I think you should be able to get 8 more inputs at 44 or 48k via the adat in on your scarlett - not sure if it will allow the higher sample rates (usually that require 2 channels of the optical to equal 1 at 88 or 98k - meaning you may get 4 channels at a higher res).

Re: Using my Analog Pres with my Computer

another option is to go with a standalone recorder like an HD24 (they can be had cheaply now) - the HD24XR has even better converters - and then use the optical outs to go into your DAW via something like an RME HDSP card or other adat interface.

gives you 24 channels to play with...

Re: Opinions - ART VLA

i still use mine for tracking these days - they live on my overhead chain... but I have used them as part of a mix chain for many years too. It's not gone add a ton of "tone" to your sound but it's a pretty smooth leveller for reigning dynamics in a bit. I'd track through it if I were you. Even chai...

If I was to grab another delay it'd be the Echoboy. It also emulates the Space Echo along with several other vintage gear.
Echoboy is a classic and for good reason - extremely versatile and great sounding.

BUT as a pure space echo emulation, the AudioThing gets me way closer (and I own a 201).

PSP 2445 is also pretty fun on electric guitars, drums and new age piano.
