Mine was an old AKG C12. Lovely mic, but just not quiet enough anymore.

Oh well.
I'd be happy to cover shipping to help release you of this burden :D

Anyone using dante?

I have been looking into some possible changes to my gear and a few options on the converter front are Dante. I currently record to a PC tower - is it true that you can connect directly to the ethernet port on that from a dante device? (i currently have my internet plugged in there) I thought I woul...

Re: How many guitar amps?

I switch between a deluxe and an ac30 for the bulk of what I do here. I also have a vibro champ and super that I like, but use less frequently. I have been doing more DI electric with effects just as a different kind of sound over the past number of years as well... Usually that's for something way ...

Re: Sebatron

interesting... i bought one of these years ago and was kind of underwhelmed after hearing other stuff like the Great River and UA solo 610... I sold it shortly after. What do you use it most often on? But tastes shift and that was like 15 years ago at least.... I wonder if I'd like it today. ( For w...

Re: Lost in the wilds of lo/mid-fi -- your thoughts please.

i feel your pain - i do this full time for a living and have for about 18 years now and I'm constantly reminded how far I have to go when I listen to albums that I love... It's a craft - it takes years of learning, practice, trial and error to improve at. I listen to a lot of interviews/podcasts wit...

Re: I'm Doing All My Own Backing Vocals

varispeed. record at different speeds to alter the timbre of your voice.

also don't do them all into the same mic and same distance as your primary lead voc. use a smaller sounding mic and stand further back etc...

rates for editing podcast audio

I've been asked for a quote for editing a podcast and so I'm trying to do some research on what are typical rates for this.... I'd love to hear from any of you that do this currently. Is there a ballpark ratio of "# of minutes of audio = $ price" that any of you use? Or is hourly more common and wha...

Re: Best vocal mic under 2K?

There really are so many types of voices that I don't think there's one mic that is universally best. what kind of vocal sounds do you like? Thick and rich? Airy and crisp? I Love tube mics on vocalists but some will accentuate different sibilances and they are not all equal so it's worth trying a f...

Re: Question: side chain compression' what, why and how

in cubase the native compressor and gates have a little toggle to enable the sidechain. Once that is turned on then you can use an aux send from any other channel to send to that comp or gate. this is fancy, sophisticated mix stuff so if you are relatively new and it seems hard to get - i wouldn't w...

Re: 16 more channels of analog compression

my 2 bits is that if it doesn't enhance tone - and just does gain reduction - you should save your money and use plug ins. They are fine for "utility" style use. RNC fell into this category for me. If you want to add texture / tone / harmonics then there's lots of great options and alternative to th...

Re: Space Echo RE-201 Questions

shane is a good guy and I have bought lots of parts from him and he's been immensely helpful to me. I Love my 201 and use it ALL THE TIME for tracking - but - it has also been the biggest pain in the butt to keep running well and techs often don't really know how to fix these as there are so many va...

Re: HOT mix/mastering levels and streaming services

No offense intended, but why not hire a dedicated mastering engineer to handle this stuff? I'm always able to get a loud mix at home, but something about the way a mastering guy does it is usually much more full range and huge sounding without neutering the dynamics. Any time I've sent a mix to my ...

Re: HOT mix/mastering levels and streaming services

I am aware of the loudness penalty - the strange thing I am finding thought is that certain tracks will still have a louder perceived fullness and that It was i am curious about. What types of compressors or limiters do this most transparently while doing extreme gain reduction? I have been using th...
