Re: How'd they get this sound?

guitars are LOUD

drums are crisp but not overly thick in comparison - more cutting with lots of attack.

bass isn't too loud either.

vocals aren't too loud.

makes more room for GUITAR

Re: reverbs - mono or stereo and why?

I have a spring reverb that I love which I often print in mono in vocals, drums, guitars, whatever ... one channel sounds better than the other :)

dark vs thick - listening to Godrich/Lanois productions

Did a bunch of radiohead listening yesterday.. specifically IN RAINBOWS and HAIL TO THE THIEF. Noticed how dark the drums are on most of those recordings. Cymbals never harsh and sticking out... but at the same time, it's not muddy. Less compressed sounding overall too than I might have guessed. Als...

Re: Best Possible Vocal Recording

Use the line input on your tascam out of the Avalon. Keep your levels well below clipping.

If you don’t think it’s good enough, buy the best converter you can afford.

Focusrite Scarlett. Apogee etc

Sound Workshop 242A Spring reverb

SOUND WORKSHOP 242a Spring reverb $750 USD

In excellent condition. Vintage vibe for days. Killer on vocals, drums, guitars.

I've owned a lot of spring reverbs and this is one of the better ones... I'd love to keep it but I need the funds.

Re: outputting masters at different level for cd vs streaming

I get that the vinyl master would work well in this scenario but likely not the cd master (without some good explanation to the artists of why it's quieter than other albums in their collection)
