A good time indeed. I sat next to Tony (drumsound) in the Saturday afternoon Ramone/Filipetti studio session.. I was two or thee feet from this guy: http://tinyurl.com/cmkvyj Phil and Frank were both incredibly kind and positive. It's way cool to have people of their caliber tell you that _you_ are ...

Re: If you could only buy a couple of RTAS plugs.....

Wavearts Trackplug... eq/comp/limiter/gate... all very high quality, low cpu with a very clean interface. Native RTAS (as well as vst & au formats).

50% off if you are a student... normally $200.

Re: $200 to spend on cheap monitors, suggestions?

One possibility is a pair of passive Avantone mix cubes. They're about $200 a pair. And they're a professional tool you will always be able to use, even when you eventually upgrade to a better set monitors. http://www.avalive.com/pimages/pimage_58093.jpg These are 5", single-driver, full-range speak...

all i can say is avoid Nationwide Disc like the plague. amidst a whole host of problems and the whole project timeline sliding on a result of their slowness, the best part was when one of their reps thought he had me on hold, but didn't, and i heard him ask a co-worker "hey, this prick says he want...

Re: Painfully transferring my CD collection....

A couple comments.. 1) I was also a hold-out... got an Ipod as a gift a few years ago, and didn't use it much for a year. I always used to take a stack of cds with me to the office everyday, on road trips, etc. Once I started loading up the Ipod, I couldn't stop... it's very cool to have hundreds of...

Re: RPM Challenge 2008

RPM = record production month. You write, record, mix, and submit a cd in one month. Then you re-introduce yourself to your friends/spouse/kids during the next month. Who else is in this year? :D I did it last year, but this year I think I'm going to take a pass... too much going on this year, inclu...

Re: Breaking in studio monitors?

rocking at normal volumes
The most important thing is to train your ears to the new sound. Like you're doing already... Purple Rain is a glorious record, innit? Just play stuff you like and keep digging through your collection to learn how great sounding records are supposed to sound.

Re: RTA software

I did a search and couldn't find much. What's a good, free (or really cheap like me) software based RTA? I found the A&H and I'll check that out this weekend. I have access to a LinearX pcRTA system at work. But I don't want to drag that old computer it's loaded on around. Are you on a mac or pc? V...

If your current monitors have decent high end and bottom end and you just need accurate midrange, I have to highly recommend the Avantone Mixcubes. +10! Particularly if your budget is that tight... just get the avantones, and learn to mix with them. For the money, heck for three times their price, ...

Re: Upgrades for the long run.

The single biggest piece of advice I ever got: Buy once. Don't spend $300 now for something that will get you by... then a year later when you are ready to spend say $800 on what you originally wanted, you'll still have $300 tied up in the thing you now want to replace, and you'll be thinking you ha...

So it must have been about a year ago... the little guy is 14 months old now. So next Saturday evening.. I think I can do that....
