I never had great results using a dipole mic for overheads, I don't want to mic the ceiling. Yeah. I think it can be cool if you are tracking a full band, that way you can aim the null points of the mics toward amps. Then by using an absorptive cloud you minimize what's coming back from the ceiling.

Cinder block walls have a lot of mass, which is good. That will make a great outer leaf. If you want to build a room within a room, for good soundproofing, you will be in good shape to do so. As far as filling in the door, you could go either way. I'd probably go for more cinder blocks for consisten...

For synth sounds I will often add some distortion in parallel to the original. There are a bunch of plugins that will do this, even a guitar amp modeler plugin can work really well. Bring that up underneath the clean signal to taste. That often sounds better to my ear than compression.

Yeah, pretty sure you can't use inserts in that way, at least not if you want to use the digital out. You could run the line out of the octopre into the dbx units, and then into an analog input.

The main thing is to find the reflection points and treat them with thick absorption. In asymmetrical room there will be reflection points in different places for different speakers. Use the HOW section for details on how to do the mirror trick: http://realtraps.com/rfz.htm Also, bass traps. Since t...

Absolutely, ceiling clouds above the mix position are huge.

Good stuff here. Figure out what frequencies the acoustic instruments are dominant at, and do some cuts on the electric tracks at those frequencies. Most likely they will be in the midrange, 700ish up to maybe 3-4k.

And yeah, take the top off, LPF.

Good advice here. My $0.02: People are right about room modes. You have to get the low end situated right, which requires that you be able to hear the low end accurately. Then once the low end is right, the bass can seem to disappear. Usually the solution is in the midrange, like 800-1.5kHz ish. Oft...

According to Tommy Tedesco, the four reasons to accept a gig are: for money; for fun; for experience; for connections. Doesn't sound like any of these are being met.

Well, maybe for the connection with the singer. Post divorce. Or hell, give her another reason to get divorced....
