Maybe do a practice run and pay attention to your levels and see what you come up with. I had my TRS 8 set up for 499 tape and had to use some 456 and just kept the levels backed off and everything seemed ok. What tape machine are you using?

Is recutting the track not an option? Maybe go through a smaller speaker. Still plenty of low end to be found in a 12 inch speaker. Otherwise I'd have to agree with re-amping and some liberal compression mixed with the original.

Good article... Never hurts to reinforce the basics. I haven't kept count how many times this has come up this year but someone, somewhere is reading about it for the first time.

Thanks for the answers everyone. Actually most of these songs were either acquired from Itunes or just ripped off my own cds. We tried a Y cable and ran into two channels and I think we had the same problems. Its a cheap Carvin board. No phase buttons. But you all gave me some answers so I can stop ...

Can someone please tell me why.........

When I take my Ipod and plug it into the mixing board right into a regular channel, using a stereo cable, a mini jack to quarter inch, on certain songs you only hear half the mix. There's obviously some of the tracks not coming through. This is just mp3s of stuff I listen to. Stones, Aerosmith, Blac...

Thanks for the info. It's mostly black. White power switch and a white panel on the left front where the vol and tone knobs are plus the brite switch. The usual red top knobs. I have a 212 R and it sounds great but it's not really loud enough for the band I play in which is why I got this but the so...

EQ modification question

I recently picked up a Sunn Concert Lead head. It powers up and everything seems to work ok except the distortion channel which is kind of a non issue since I use pedals. What does bother me is that it is exceptionally bright even with the treble rolled all the way back. So the question is if I want...

I got a Bluebird a few years ago and liked it at the time but as I've gotten better mics it doesn't get much use anymore. For 100 bucks seems worth a shot. I'm sure you get that back out of it. I remember using it on some female vocals and it sounded nice.

I just got my hands on an RE 20 this week. Haven't gotten to use it on drums yet. Right now we're still in the vocal testing stage. It seems pretty impressive so far so I'm looking forward to using it on a kick. My favs continue to be the 602, D6, 421 but it all kind of depends on what kind of music...

Good info....This stuff was drilled into me by the guy who schooled me about Pro Tools. Anyone else use those headphones on the webpage? I've used them for about ten years now and still love tracking with them. Just bought a new pair the other day.

It is one of the better places to be. This and the magazine are the first things I tell other musicians about when they start getting interested in recording. The amount of experience and knowledge that you can find on here is awesome.

For 1K you could find some a couple Scully 280 or Yamaha PM 1000 that are racked and ready. I'm totally sold on these for something that has plenty of mojo and sound great when pushed. If you can find the PM 1000 that has the eq modded to Neve frequencies then that's nice as well. Probably not as co...
