I should've clarified. I don't mind the pitch changing -- it's normal and natural, as opposed to the slice-and-dice and resampling Boooinggggg effect of non-varispeed. However, I think if crap sci-fi TV from the early nineties were morphing faces (VIDEO!), then there should be much better technolog...

You may want to talk to the DJ community about this. From what I've heard of the Native Instruments time stretching algorithms in Traktor are pretty awesome -- I've heard it do a 40% stretch that was good enough for live applications. A DJ app lives and dies by its ability to beatmatch, which is pri...

so....PT9 doesn't have low latency monitoring? Or you can't just lower the buffer so the latency is basically nil? Yes you can't use plug ins, but you can mult the input on a patch bay and feed the headphone amp with a hardware comp, Verb. Or delay. That's what I do anyway. Latency doesn't matter t...

I've been running AMD chips/chipsets for the last 10 years. Intel is making faster chips and they aren't at the price premium they used to be -- but the AM2 upgrade path was so good I stayed on it and I'm running an Phenom II X4 965 and have been for over a year. It was a great chip at a really grea...

Glad to hear about the VST wrapper and I see what you mean about the extra control with the bounce -- that's a creative solution that I could see employing in interesting ways. As for the low-latency monitoring, that sounds a lot like ASIO direct monitoring. I'd be interested to see how it works in ...

Thanks for all the info! I have a few questions: 1. How well does the VST --> RTAS wrapper work? I was considering checking out some Stillwell Audio stuff (reverb, especially) and they're VST only. 2. I'm a little confused as to why bouncing my session down to 2-TRK via internal bus routing and then...

the hardware limitations, or cost of a setup large enough for me to mix otb has always kept me from trying pro tools. is it worth it now? other than the fact it seems that everybody and their mother wants to use pro tools, what are the real benefits of upgrading if im happy with sonar 6? I jumped o...

I'm also looking at the Massey plugins -- specifically TD5 and Tape-head. The price is nice and you can't say no to a free trial. Which Massey plugs are you excited about?

The "I've Upgraded to Pro Tools" thread -- General

Seems like a few of us have upgraded from various DAWs to Pro Tools after the PT9 announcement. In this thread, share your experiences, ask questions, and just generally talk about stepping into a brave new world. I've been a Cubase user for years and migrated from Cubase 5.5 (Windows) to Pro Tools ...

this is nice... I walked away from PT after I sold my 001 because it was just too expensive to get into a better interface. My MOTU only set me back a couple hundred (LOVE CRAIGSLIST) so I've been using reaper since then... but after using PT8 on a recent project the prospect of going back to PT fo...

Still haven't made the plunge to PT9 yet, but my LE 8.04 system is up and running and I'm working on mixing and editing a few tracks.

Pro Tools makes a lot more sense than Cubase. I've been using Cubase for close to 8 years off and on and I'm faster on Pro Tools after a week than I am in Cubase.

Maschine 1.6 to offer VST/AU hosting

I purchased Maschine about a month ago and I'm still barely scratching the surface of what it can do. I really like how NI has been supporting this box and this looks like a really powerful update, for free. http://createdigitalmusic.com/2010/11/maschine-groove-box-to-add-plug-in-hosting-in-early-20...

I totally understand you can just run out and back in, but in Cubase you can actually set up that out and back in as a hardware plugin completely delay compensated. Its worked amazingly well in Cubase and Nuendo for years. In PT9, they are doing hardware delay compensation for inserts (not automati...

Yay my Micro showed up today! Tested Pro Tools LE 8.04 of my Win7 machine at work and it seems to work fine -- not a bad little interface! Seems to have some kind of WASPI compatible drivers, since it can be used as the primary soundcard in Win7, so hopefully it will give me decent performance in th...

PT HD software WILL work without HD hardware attached?even with core audio. Obviously, if this is true, then some features (those that use the DSP) would not work. Right, it would become an HD Native system -- however I imagine it would make the Complete Production 2 bundle worthless so maybe this ...
