If Tascam asked me to take it down, I would.
However, in my mind I don't see the harm of putting a manual out for a 10+ year old device (that was considered obsolete years ago). If I have to take it down, I'll write my own manual and put it in Creatives Commons

Tascam 688 manual (free download!)
I got real tired of seeing Tascam 688 manuals going for exorbitant prices on ebay and whatnot, so I figured what the hell, let's get those b*stards back. I've posted the complete 688 manual on my website (pdf) , so if you've got a 688 but no manual feel free to download it. It's 150 MB, so it'll tak...

I have to agree. With the ease and cheapness to record, people will record the song AS THEY ARE WRITING IT! That might work for Paul Simon, but not for everyone else. My general rule of thumb is that I don't record a song until 2 months have passed. At that point, I know in my head EXACTLY what the ...

Recording schools in England?
It is beginning to look like fate is going to yank me out of Canada next year and drop me into England. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a good recording school there...

I dunno. I just got a consumer grade Panasonic reel-to-reel for a buck at a yard sale, and the sound quality is terrific. Tape can be inexpensive, as long as you avoid going overboard. Also, one thing I've found since becoming a convert to tape is that most consumers just didn't do basic maintainenc...

I've taken the proverbial Pepsi challenge administered by a friend, and the analog always sounded better. He used CD's from the early 90's, pre "compression hell", and even then, they were harder to listen to. Yeah, it sounds ridiculous. HOWEVER My cassette copy of "Dark Side of the Moon" on repeat ...

What I'm finding with my stuff now is that for balls-to-the-wall rock, less is more. With a four track and some minor EQ'ing, i'm getting results that rival some of the over-compressed stuff coming out now. Call me crazy, but that cassette tape has quite a bit of punch to it when it's really humming...
