I do quite a bit of work directly out of the headphone jack of my MBP. Honestly, when I do get those mixes up on my monitors through my 002, I'm never shocked at what I've done. That might have more to do with the 002's lack of quality vs. the MBPs internal sound quality. But there you go. I'm guess...

I'd be interested in if the tape was running at 7 1/2" ips or 15". I enjoyed mine until it was stolen. Probably earned the theive $10 at the pawn shop. They probably stole it because it looked so cool and important. They were probably dismayed that they spent all the energy carting it away to be lau...

Re: Soundcraft Ghost Power Supply
[quote="Can I assume this is a power supply problem and not a problem with my mixer?[/quote] I don't think you can assume that it's the PS but it's a very good jumping off point. I had the same problem years ago and thankfully, it was the PS. With the console unplugged from the PS, all 3 leds were o...

I would not put the drum room in the loft, that is asking for trouble. Best bet is a room inside on the main floor of the structure that is isolated from floor, sidewalls, and ceiling. There is lots of info in the web about how to do this, many options at many different price points. No amount of in...

Since my puter is a MBP with only a single FW400 connector, I have no choice, and it works just fine (DIGI002 into FW connector, external drive into DIGI002) using N4 and PTLE. I've Been thinking about getting a FW800 external drive to plug into the FW800 connector, but still have not had the need, ...

A pretty nice pro-sumer analog tape machine from the mid 90's was the Fostex 1/2" 16 tracks. 1/2" tape is somewhat affordable (not really). Nobody is ever gonna say they sound like a 2" machine. But they don't sound like an ADAT either (which sadly is what I moved to after my E-16 died in 1998). I p...

I was wondering, why do the vocals and guitar need to be done at the same time? Is it for the performance, artist's request, etc.? Just wondering. As an engineer, you need to be ready for all sorts of situations. This specific client, I cannot speak to. But I've recorded thousands of minimalistic s...
