Does the Korg recorder have an MS-matrix effect? If so, you could use it to make a signal that can be compressed in two mono passes. Then run that through the MS-matrix again to get back to stereo. And despite the naysayers, go ahead and try it in two passes. Then you'll know first-hand what the re...

I avoid ruff mixes like the plague. Don't tell Joan Jett about that. I love my roughs. A few I have actually convinced the artist to use the rough as the master. It's hard to let go of something that you worked so hard on. But if the meticulously crafted mix does move me, it gets dumped. So many ti...

Re: Mono overhead positioning that is working great
I don't see that as a bad thing. Posture helps me drum better. (Really anything helps my sorry drumming.)citystate wrote: The only problem is that I have to play with perfect Max Weinberg posture so I don't hit the mic with my face.

Re: the right ways (and wrong ways) to use ITB reverbs?
are there dangers in using different reverbs on different tracks? Great dangers. Don't do it man. It'll crash your systema nd send porn pictures to the Internet with your face on them. is it ok to "print" reverbs to tracks, or do you usually not do that with verb? How exactly would you do this? And...

I'm definitely not one of the IT peeps on this board, but I've had good luck with a simple Western Digital 7200 rpm USB drive -- the kind Dell will sell you already in a case. Your audio needs sound pretty modest to me -- are you having problems doing 8 tracks to the internal drive? Also, how fast ...

Usually a good starting point for pre delay is 70ms. I don't agree with this. Maybe 70 is a good starting point for a slapback (it's still a little late) but I usually settle around 25-30 on a good plate. Maybe end up at 50 for slow stuff. You really can't say what is gunna work for any given track...

Using charts in the studio
I ran across this article in Mix about Blondie and Mike Chapman. Here's an excerpt: "(Producer) Mike (Chapman) had these charts for every song," (Lenise) Bent (Engineer) recalls, "breaking them down into different instrumentation and the different parts that had to be done: drums, bass, rhythm guita...

The OWC drives support firewire, usb2, and eSata, I think. The OWC external enclosures do not have eSATA ports to hook up to your computer. They do not have internal "to drive" SATA connections either. They use older and cheaper PATA drives. Not a big deal right now, but PATA is dying fast. The Uni...

I'd go with eSATA. Yeah, you likely will have to install a card in your system, but the data rates are much higher than USB or Firewire. The only problem is if you need to transfer your sessions to another computer that doesn't have eSATA. In that case you need one of these: http://www.newertech.com...

My only question is, why can't the authors of the manufacturer's drivers make them perform like these drivers? The hardware is obviously capable. I spent a couple hundred bucks on a RME Hammerfall 9652 when it came out because it was touted as having the lowest latency of any card on the market. And...
