Computer/iBook problems- help!

So, I recently purchased Logic 8 and it is running very, very poorly on my ibook. The machine specs are as follows: a two year old iBook, 1.42 GHZ processor, 1.5 gigs of Ram, OSX 10.4.10. Recording to a PPA external firewire drive (actually two on the bus (they are daisy chained)), one for recording...

Anyone using Logic 8 on an original MacBook with only 1 gig of ram? I'm using 8 on a non-intel ibook 1.42 GHZ with 2 GB of RAM and it ain't pretty (recording to an external firewire PPA drive). I literally have a couple organ audio instruments open, space designer and a compressor on the bus, and e...

If any of you could post results regarding how 8 is running on your system (and of course, include your systems specs) it would be much appreciated... I should be receiving 8 this week but am a bit worried since according to their recommendations I'm almost at the bare minimum of what's needed (I'm ...

passive DI's can be had for cheap if money is an issue. It's just a transformer so the inputs and outputs can be switched. Any good recommendations on a decent affordable passive D.I.? Normally I would be more than willing to pay $200 for the Red Eye but I just moved and am beyond broke so the only...

Thanks. Any reccomendations on where to get the Red Eye for $200 (or less)? It looks to be $250 direct from Little Labs...not seeing it as Sweetwater, zZounds, or MF.

Thanks. I have the Tech21 Sansamp Bass D.I., I assume that would work? Also, by 'backwards' do you mean going from the audio interface into the D.I. then into the amp?

Re-amping noise issue/question

Ok, first a little background...I'm using a Nord Electro and Logic EVP and the Mtron plug-in to write a song (I'm using Logic and an Maudio firewire 410). I'm not totally happy with the sounds so I was planning on running them through my '77 Fender Princeton Reverb and mic'ing them with a Beyer m160...

I don't have anything, but a suggestion...go to a thrift store, get a bunch of plates and glasses for a nickel a piece, then record the band smashing them.

what exactly do you mean by density? i use the word too but I have a feeling it's one of those things that the meaning varies with user.. Hm, I guess the best synonym would be "thick." A sound that is extremely full...another example I thought of is the guitar sounds on Neil Young's On The Beach . ...

Not referring to this problem specifically...I'm starting some new songs and being able to do this correctly will be one of the keys.

What are you doing for compression? Maybe you haven't told the whole story... Thanks for the replies. An example would be the first track off of Radiohead's Kid A , where the keyboard (Nord?) just sounds huge. I was thinking more in terms of guitar, but keyboard could apply too. I've been trying to...
